Nope. It's the stock pickguard on the 2016 model. They are thick...leading some to dub them the flubber pickguards.

Have an old (1967) J-50 that I bought after it had been unsold in the store for a year so the price came down to where I could afford it ($150 was a lot to pay for a guitar back in the days when the minimum wage was $1.25/hour). The first mod I made was to get rid of the stock Kluson tuners, which were junk -- really stiff and kept slipping, with a set of Grove rotomatics. The following year, the height adjustable bridge went for one with a glued-in bone saddle. Some years later, I replaced the heavy, thick pickguard with one of the same shape, but paper-thin thickness. It plays and sounds divine, so I don't care what its "collectors value" may be. I've got myself a great sounding Gibson and I wouldn't part with it for any amount of money.

Wow, pretty crazy. I can see where it would get the name — it almost looks like a gelatin type material, like it could be soft to the touch.

Very happy with the quality of the TR cover. I believe it was only aboit $12 or so. No brainer for me.

Are there any "like-for-like" tuner swaps out there? Looking to replace Grover Rotomatic with white bean tuners, but don't want a lot of hassle with drilling, convertion sleeves etc.

I have a set of Kluson Deluxe tuners that I'd make you a deal on. They will fit the Grover size peg hole. They have then nut on top and the white butterbean knobs. I was going to use them on my J-45 but went with some conversion sleeves instead. You would still have to drill very small pilot holes for the little screws that go in the back of the headstock, but that's easily done.

Let me know if you're interested.
