Default What strings should I try?

Got some gift cards for Fathers Day. I have one acoustic that takes mediums and one that takes lights. I’d like to experiment with new strings. What should I try?

It would help if we knew what strings you have tried thus far?

I'm just saying...

Curt Mangan- Phospher Bronze - Round Core

It's not that hard to pick one he probably hasn't tried.

Great strings.

I'm a big fan of one of the string workhorses - the D'Addario EJ16.

Happy Fathers’ Day, Indy. I use, prefer, recommend and endorse John Pearse strings. The Pearse alloy most commonly found in music stores is phosphor bronze, which is a good place to start. I also use the John Pearse 80/20 bronze on a lot of my guitars.

Hope this helps.

What do you like/don't like about the strings you've tried? Do you have an idea of the "feel"/tone you're looking for? Do you like a bright sound? A more mellow sound?

Thank you. Someone who 'gets' it.

Get a set of 12string strings and just use the high strings. The E A D and G will be tuned an octave up. Some folks call this "high tuning" or "Nashville tuning." You're likely to either love it or hate it.

And you get another set of strings for "free."

Alternatively the GHS CU-BBHT set for High Strung/Nashville tuning are only around US$4.00 a set.

Would help to know what guitars you have and what kind of tone you are going for. You will get a bunch of answers here, but basically people will just recommend strings they like without knowing what woods you have, the size or style of your guitar, or your tone preferences. Tough to give good suggestions without those things.

I'll second the Curt Mangan suggestion - the PB line is awesome and my favorite for Rosewood, Mahogany, Walnut, or laminate B&S dreadnoughts. My personal favorite string, but that does not mean you will like them.

Other suggestion - try them all eventually!
