I used to do coffee houses in Santa Fe, backing up a buddy who was three times as talented. He played a Martin, and I always felt a bit inferior because the nicest guitar I'd been able to afford was a Guild. Thank goodness I could also play a mean harmonica and do vocal harmonies.

One weekend we drove down from Santa Fe to Albuquerque for a John Denver concert, and I was thrilled to see that Denver played a Guild.

That concert cured me of my guitar-inferiority complex. My buddy was still the better guitarist, but at that point I at least played the same guitar as John Denver.
