I'm so OCD that all my guitars, even my $159 Danelectro stay in the case.

Thanks, jpd, but I've already used the 'Contact' page on the US website.
I don't think for one second that I'll get anywhere - Hercules have a U.K. Distributor who I've been dealing with. I think Hercules will simply back their distributor, on the basis that there's no point keeping a dog and barking yourself.

Four days since I completed the 'Contact Us' form on the Hercules website. No response yet, other than an automated acknowledgement that they received my message.

After reading through this thread and thinking it wouldn't affect me, I checked my Hercules GS412B (about 10 years old) and it indeed has a sticky feeling grip on the height adjuster.

I'm going to take photos and send the company a note and see what happens. Meanwhile, none of my guitars will be on it. My Martin 00028vs was hanging in it when I checked.

EDIT: Someone on my FB just mentioned that they returned their GS412B to Long & McQuade where they bought it. I must be having a senior's moment because I bought mine at L&M. I worked at L&M for two years selling these ****ed things. My SON works there now. I called him and he said just bring it in and they'll replace it.

DUH! Should have realized from the start.

Sadly the lifetime warranty isn't honoured in Australia.

I've bought Hercules guitar stands, mic stands, speaker stands all because I liked the quality and trusted them. Just had a guitar stand fail because of faulty plastic and they aren't interested in honouring the warranty.

I'd rather have a great product than a great warranty. Hercules will replace your stand but they're not going to replace your guitar. I've had one of these wooden stands for about 5 years. There's always an instrument hanging on it and it shows no signs of any kind of failure. At some point I'm going to pick up a couple more.

Default Hercules stand

My adjustment also disintegrated after 4 years. The clamp was also very sticky.
Got a new one without any questions asked.

I will tape it.............. duct tape.

Just need to add this to the discussion. I too had a Hercules stand get the sticky handle then fail. I had no info at that time to address the issue.

I bought another Hercules stand, figuring that was a one-off situation and I’ve had no problem with the new stand in the past two years or so.

This problem was from years ago and Hercules gladly replaced the defective one for me and did NOT require that I send them the defective one. I now have 6 of them with no problems, no worries.

The new versions do not suffer this problem.

I mostly do not keep my guitars out or on wall hangers because I live in earthquake country and don't want to risk storing my guitars out of their cases. But this is another area where there are good choices at reasonable price points. Sometimes stuff just happens despite our best efforts.

Mine are always safe in their cases when I'm not playing them. Being disciplined about my practice and play is my responsibility. Besides, it takes 1 second to pick up a guitar on a stand, maybe 5 seconds to open a case and pick one up. It's no problem.
