commando, is there an upcharge on top of the braz upcharge just for that particular set?! i'm thinking it's worth more than some of the braz sets we see nowadays?

wonder how that set got kept aside so long... weee!!
As far as costs go, the best thing to do would be to drop Jim (or a prospective luthier) a note, identify a particular piece and go from there.

I would say that the one at Dream Guitars went for multiples of a base Olson, in part due to the rarity of the chocolate, dark, straight grained braz so I agree with you that it is worth more (and even more once Jim is retired).

As for this particular piece Jim has had it for over a decade I believe. Pretty cool looking considering it was once a crate used to carry surveying equipment for the Army Corps of Engineers. I wonder if the combination of it being felled so long ago (over 50 years ago) and the circumstances in which it was kept have contributed to how good it is today. Jim seemed to be gushing about how good it tapped out (and he's mr. understated).

Awesome photos! Thank you for sharing. Your guitar is coming along really nicely. What's the third guitar from the right? Is it hog?

Kindly,
Danny

Thanks Danny! I could be wrong but it looks like Pink Ivory (compared to the 2 hogs on the left).

That's gonna be another beauty!

Are those C shaped kerfing clamps clamped on directly into the outside of the side wood?

I think you're right. Wow, that's pretty rare wood. Very very cool!

Another cool rendering of what she could look like (it'll end up much darker like the picture above but this is a nice rendition to give the "general idea")! Thanks BCaylor!

Commando, Excellent pictures. Your dark, dark brazilian will be beautiful against the spruce top you've chosen. A special guitar to be sure!

FYI - I was checking out this link and found it so cool to hear Jim talking about his guitars. He's such a swell and humble guy and it really comes through in this video....

Very cool. Jim and I use the same source for Italian spruce. It really is awesome stuff they sell. I just bought a dozen more tops from them.

Anyway your guitar looks great. I'm sure it will be a lifer. I really admire Jims ability to crank out the guitars. I prefer to build one at a time but his way is vastly more efficient!

Keep us posted on the progress.

Hi John - How did these Italian tops come out for you compared to other Italian tops you've used? Thanks in advance!

I've noticed that these tops are much more consistent than others I've used (lighter and stiffer too) so they have always came out wonderful.

That's what we concluded on my last visit to Jim's shop. Man this will be so cool! (I hope!)
