Default Livingston Taylor

Livingston Taylor was on PBS's Woodsong show last night. I never knew that James Taylor had such an accomplished brother. This morning I had to research it a bit and they had in interesting musical childhood thanks to their mother. You can read the story here:

Yes, he's very good in his own right. And nothing new, he's been around for years. And, before someone pipes in, No, "You're So Vain" wasn't written about him.

Thanks for the link, I'll have to go watch when I have a few minutes.

I remember going to his SUNY Albany concert in the early 70's. Good show.

A very musical family all in all. I've listened to Livingston for a long time and he somewhat reminds me of a "diamond in the rough" in comparison to James. Not meant in any disrespect to Livingston...he's different and that's a good thing!

He was a teacher at Guitar Week when I attended the Swannanoa gathering. Very interesting. His “Stage Performance” book is worth reading if you plan to play out.

Saw Livingston years ago. He is very talented and puts on a terrific show. Well worth seeing him if you are able.

Liv is a brilliant entertainer. Mostly plays covers but every bit the equal of James in his own way. Not as a songwriter but in every other aspect. I believe they have a sister who plays music as well. Opened for him once, many years ago and my wife and I had a long chat with him, after the show. He sure knows how to work a crowd. He wrote a little book called Stage Performance and teaches a course by the same name at Berklee. He goes to his gigs sometimes in his small plane.

And a talented sister, "Sister Kate" Taylor. A friend of mine from high school plays with and tours with her.

A very musical family. I like Liv’s subtle guitar work. I met Alex, years ago. And have seen Kate perform in small clubs.

I remember Chapel Hill in the 60s, when Dr. Taylor was Dean. Even though there’s a lot of Martha’s Vineyard in the Taylor family, I think of them as Chapel Hill folk.

I took a week-long class with Livingston Taylor at Swanannoa Gathering near Asheville, NC ... it was terrific.

He has also published a book that is very enlightening called "Stage Performance: Stay Lean & Simple. Tell the Story"

Can't forget about Hugh Taylor!! Very talented musician. He played at my daughter's wedding, which took place on a favorite island in the Elizabeth Islands just west of the Vineyard. Hugh ran a charter boat in there for years and that's the connection. His keyboard player at the time was blind......and a fabulous musician with a beautiful touch. Listening to Hugh was literally like listening to JT all afternoon......amazingly similar voice!!

Livingston Taylor is a consummate performer. I say this based on live recordings I have heard, although I've never had the good fortune to see him in a live performance. His tunes "Songs that Should Never Be Played on the Banjo" and "Railroad Bill" are among the funniest I have ever heard.
