Larivee OM-03, opinions?
I'm looking at one of these later and wanted some feedback, if anyone has some.
Larivee's have always been hit or miss for me, mostly miss. Dead tone, strange feel due to the compound radius as you go up the fingerboard. But I've heard nothing but good about the Larivee OM's so I'm hoping......

I have an OM-03R and love it. Very responsive guitar, and its range continues to impress me. Solid highs and mids, but the bass is phenomenal for an OM size. Very deep and resonant. The neck feels a little thicker than what I was used to in the past, but I've grown to enjoy that aspect of the guitar.
Haven't had the opportunity to play one with hog b/s, but have heard only good things about them as well. |

They no longer use a compound radius fretboard. They've been using 16" radius since October 2017.

This might be a game changer for me as well as the L-03 I bought off reverb had a thick neck that didn't appeal at all. I moved it on rather quickly.

I can imagine parting reluctantly with some of my guitars, but the Larrivee OM-03 is a gem. So balanced, and one of the best playing necks of all my guitars. I like the satin finish too. The tuners are extremely good as well.

I own a Larrivee OM-03W in Engelmann spruce and black walnut that I will never willingly part with. It’s a terrific guitar.
As for the OM-03, you’ll find the same variability as with any all-solid wood guitar: some will blow your socks off, others won’t impress you as much. But all of them are well-made, professional quality guitars. Hope that makes sense. Wade Hampton Miller |

I have an OM-40 that I got about 1 month ago. It's a beautiful sounding guitar and the neck is normal as far as I can tell. It really projects a warm sound and the build quality is really nice.

Larrivee's are great guitars, I've had a bunch of them. All L's and D's. I have a a high opinion of them. Their necks profiles usually aren't my favorite but they are still workable. That is definitely a personal thing.

This one is about 6 years old and had the compound radius. I'm afraid that it's just not a fit for me. It'll be interesting to see if one of the newer ones feels better to me. It did have a very nice sound though, I'll give it that. Thanks, all.

It's true- I had an Lo3 r years ago and I liked the design- I've owned a couple of electrics with a compound radius fretboard and it made sense to me. I just got a new Om o3 r and I like this fretboard as well. Looking forward to getting a good setup though as the action comes pretty high from the factory

Unfortunately true. According to Matt and John Jr. "The Market wants what the market wants"
The most affordable way to get a compound radius these days would be a Halcyon.
