Default Tone of my post

Sometimes after I post I'll go back and read it and think, I sound like a jerk. As much as I try to think out my message it often comes out snarky or condenscending. That is the last thing I want. I guess my writing skills are not as clear as I would like. It seems the more I try to explain, the bigger the foot in my mouth. I guess that aligns with the thread about email, text and calls. Wishing you all a great day.

Wow, what a jerk!

Just playing

Tone doesn't always translate well to text, it's all good.

You just need to change how you press the keys, tone is all about the fingers.

At least you read / re-read your posts. It's apparent that some simply ignore the glaring "you spelled this wrong" red lines under their writing and just keep going. Or pay no attention to homophones or .......... thanks for caring.

100 people will probably hear/read/see the same thing and perceive it, place emphasis and interpret it 100 different ways....

Same here. Sometimes I rewrite my post repeatedly because I realize it comes across way harsher than I actually feel about the topic.

Golffishny -

You've already achieved the first step in being a good editor: you realize that there's is a problem. The next step is cutting down your message to the bare bones and removing the snark or the asides. Snark and sarcasm is very difficult to modulate and even with the best of writers is not always successful.

You can always read aloud a message and see how it sounds. Our basic guideline (from the FAQ) is this:

BE NICE! The Acoustic Forum is a happy place. Mean people are not welcome here. If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Treat others with respect. If you bumped into each other in the guitar store, you'd probably be cordial. We ask that you be the same way here. The people on the forum are your neighbors, and share similar love for music and guitars.

That says it in a nutshell. Enjoy the AGF - it's an incredible resource and pastime for so many of us.

best,

Rick

I have notice your tone is a bit quacky.
It's your pickup, your keyboard.
You'll get better tone using a mic.

... and a mic will generate more feedback posts.

I have noticed that not everybody reads your entire post before responding, and often these responses are directed at something you didn't say or have said that they didn't see or understand. That's just part of the whole forum experience and I don't engage these people; I just ignore it and move on.

I like it when some people don't read the entire thread, and then respond with the same comment or answer to a question that's been said 10 times in the thread already...

If I had a dollar for every time I stuck my foot in my mouth........ But that was mostly for verbal conversation. Sometimes the editor is out to lunch.
