Now that was a fail... (kind of funny)
I occasionally "jam" with 2 acquaintances from the office.
We rent a practice room at a music school 5 minutes from our office. The room has amps, PA, drum kit, and a keyboard. Usually we have 2 electric guitars + drums. Sometimes one of us will play the keyboard. (But we're not keyboard players) I have wanted to take my acoustic guitar, and did so today. Total fail. I plugged it into a fender amp. I was not expecting it to sound amazing, but it sounded OK. But the feedback was totally off the wall. I have a Taylor academy, the onboard tuner would register the notes the electric guitar in the room was playing, NOT the note I was plucking on my guitar. Any combo of amp + preamp volume that resulted in being able to hear the acoustic guitar resulted in amazing feedback within 5 seconds. Even unplugged the whole guitar was jumping in time with the beat. I ended up playing a 1-handed chord sequence on the Yamaha digital piano in the room. That actually went OK after getting over the disorientation of playing piano for the first time in years. And then the other guy with a guitar broke a string and didn't have a spare. Sometimes it's not meant to be. I actually talked to Taylor support and they said I should try the PA next time but that a room like that (20x15 or so) is like the worst case scenario for feedback since there is no way to turn the guitar top away from the sound waves bouncing around the room. |

Assume it was a bass feedback (as opposed to high pitched squeal)? Have to turn the guitar's bass control way down, same with amp, and volume down, too.

Acoustic guitars sound bad when plugged into electric guitar amps. They don’t have tweeters. Bring your own acoustic amp and your fail will turn into success!

It will still be hard to get past the effect or affect the
electric guitar has on your acoustics top. Certainly asking him not to play when you tune is an option. a soundhole plug might help if your not using a mag soundhole pickup in your guitar. |
