Writing inside Taylor GS Mini
Hi everybody,
I just bought a new Taylor GS Mini e-Koa. This is my first Taylor guitar ever. While checking the inner part of the guitar (by looking inside the sound hole), I found a writing. Here is a picture: https://imgur.com/a/aQqCwYT According to your experience, are these writings normal or should I return the guitar with the shop? Thank you for your support and help! Giacomo |

What about the writing concerns you? Many, many guitar's have writing, signatures, etc. inside them.

First of all, thank you for your reply.
This is the second guitar I own, so I do not have much experience. I was wondering if these writings mean something and why they are not deleted during production (even if, to be honest, the writing I have is placed in a hard-to-find position, inside the guitar). Thanks again for your help, Giacomo |

They wouldn't bother me at all. In fact, they make the guitar more identifiable as yours as much as the serial number and label. Congratulations on your new guitar.

Welcome to AGF Giacomo. Like others, I don't think the writings are anything to be concerned about. Here's an anecdote about writings that were discovered inside Joan Baez's 1929 Martin 0-45:
"An amusing story about that guitar is that when it went in to be fixed in 1996, the repairman took it apart and found a scroll inside which said, 'Too bad you're a communist'. It must have been done by a repairman years ago who disputed my politics. When the 0-45 was replicated for a 1997 edition, a backwards label bearing the same slogan was adhered to the inside of the soundboard so that it could be read with an inspection mirror.

Yes, this not unique. Things are written on wood in various ways for various reasons during the production of instruments. Sometimes it's inventory marks for the parts or materials. Sometimes it's QC marks for those who work on making the guitar. I'd suppose sometimes they are "graffiti" from someone who worked in the factory--or in the case of a used guitar, a prior owner, marks that mean "I was here."
Should it concern you or cause you to return the guitar? IMHO, no.

Writing inside Taylor GS Mini
I went to check a video of my GS Mini Koa taken of the internal of my guitar during a string change. There’s 2 tiny “C” written in the sides near the end pin.
I think it’s ok. Nothing to lose sleep over since it’s on the inside. Welcome to AGF and time to show us some pictures of your new GS Mini!

Looks like pencil markings by one of the people in the factory who built your guitar. Wouldn't bother me at all.

It's the ultra secret code for all guitar knowledge! If you can decipher it you will suddenly be able to play like Eric Clapton, Django Reinhart, Duane Allman, BB King and Leo Kottke combined.
Kidding of course. Nothing to worry about. I would guess than many guitars have some pencil marks from the shop inside, but most of us never go looking for them. You will likely find more marks if there is ever a reason to take the neck off and change the shims. Often these are numbers to match a specific neck and specific body during assembly. |

As others have said, nothing really to worry about. However, I have an inquiring mind so if it were me I would call Taylor and pose the question to them. Taylor guitars are know for the consistency in production and generally come out perfect so they might want to know themselves what you are looking at. Hey, they might even give you a small gift for your troubles. Support contact info found here:

The writings are construction notes that designate the identification of a part or assembly in the building of the guitar, and may also contain the name or initials of someone involved in the building process. You can also find these penciled-on markings on other makes of guitars.

It's "17 T" marked while someone was standing outside the edge of the back plate.
You might want to contact Taylor; they may send you a complementary 900 series for alerting them to their guitar construction faux pas. |
