Default New to the forum, hello everyone

I am super-excited to be joining the forum. I’ve been following your discussions for quite a while and I’ve learned a lot from all of you about vintage guitars (my obsession). I especially enjoy stories about pawnshop finds and closet finds (i.e. when somebody finds an old Martin D-18 or Gibson Hummingbird in grandma’s closet).
I have been playing on and off for 50 years, more off than on (a sad story for another time). In the last 5 years I’ve taken up my first love (music) again with a passion. I am just about to retire and looking forward to playing every day, all day long. I’m also getting into restoring vintage guitars, some of which I get from pawnshops in Tucson and some of which I find online.
Enough about me; time to meet my guitars:

Harmony H-162; solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides; made in Chicago, c. 1965
Harmony H-165; solid mahogany top, back and sides; made in Chicago, c. 1968-1971
Epiphone FT-135 grand auditorium 6-string (1970s; tobacco burst solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides; made in Japan)
Epiphone FT-160 12-string (1970s; tobacco burst solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides; made in Japan)
Alvarez 5054 12-string (1960s; made in Japan)
Alvarez RD-10 6-string (1970s; made in Korea)
Ovation Custom Balladeer acoustic (1970s; tobacco burst spruce top; made in U.S.A.)
Ovation Ultra 1312 acoustic (1970s; natural spruce top; made in Korea)
Ovation Ultra 1527 acoustic-electric cutaway (1970s; tobacco burst spruce top; made in Korea)
Fender CD-60 mahogany (solid mahogany top, mahogany laminate back and sides; made in Indonesia)
Art & Lutherie Wild Cherry (2000s; made in Canada)
Art & Lutherie 12-string (2000s; made in Canada)
Martin DX1AE acoustic-electric (2010s; solid spruce top, mahogany HPL back and sides; made in Mexico)
Martin DXK2 acoustic (2010s; koa HPL top, back and sides; made in U.S.A.)

Welcome! It’s a great forum, and for the most part, the participants are well behaved and knowledgeable.

And that’s quite a collection you’ve got there! I have about 6 and am preparing for the next one, some time this year...

Welcome to the forum, welshr. Nice list of guitars. If you’d like, as many members do, you can add them to your signature block so they’ll show in all your posts. To do so, at the upper left, click on UserCP, then in the left sidebar at the next screen, click on Edit Signature, then add them.

Welcome aboard, welshr. Congrats on your upcoming retirement!

I'm fairly new here myself, and have found the folks on this forum to be laidback and helpful. In fact, I can't recall ever seeing anyone get into a kerfluffle or be jerks to each other, which is pretty refreshing.

Welcome welshr! Congrats on your upcoming retirement—based on my last couple weeks at work, I’m feeling a pang if jealousy!

Thanks everyone, and hello to all of you! My impression is that there are a lot of competent, knowledgeable guitarists and do-it-yourself luthiers on this forum. I'm looking forward to learning a lot from all of you.

Welcome welshr. I was raised in Tucson and loved the hunt at pawnshops, Chicago Store and Rainbow Guitars, among many others. I'm showing my age but it shows anyway. I look forward to your stories.

Welcome to the forum!

I've been playing on and off since the Beatles came out, so I'm one the semi old guys here too.
