Default Modified Taylor Gs mini!

So I decided to customize my Taylor gs mini. I loved the end result. I bought the truss rod cover and pickguard from bill nichols who provided excellent service. The truss rod is ebony with an abalone inlay and the pickguard is rosewood to match the back and sides with abalone inlay. I also changed the plastic bridge pins for the taylor ebony bridge pins with abalone dot inlay. I might change in the future the fret markers to abalone. Let me know what everyone thinks!

Welcome to the forum. I really like the pickguard - very pretty with the rose swirling. I'm no fan of the standard faux tortoise shell pickguards.

Very nice, sort of "hummingbird-esque", I like it!

Good to have you with us, Aaron. Capt. Bill Nichols always does beautiful work! I have his custom TRCs on both my Taylors. At one time, he was a moderator on this forum. Great guy!

I used a hair dryer to warm mine up a little and slowly peel it off - I left it off.
If I hold my GSM at just the right angle I can see a slight imprint.
If this would have had a high gloss finish, I would have either left the pick guard on or replaced it.

There are rumors of a Limited Edition all-solid GS Mini in the works - Bob T., Kurt, and Andy need to see this first...

I believe the non-braced, strongly arched back on the Mini, which is made practical thanks to the layered wood, is a big part of the magic of the Mini's voice (especially volume and bass). An all-solid Mini might have a very different (and possibly inferior) voice.

I used a hairdryer and slowly peeled it off. Unfortunatley for me, the glue stuck to the guitar instead of the pickguard and had to clean it up with naphtha which took a while.

I'm still using the elixir phosphor bronze it came with. But I'm thinking on trying the dr strings rare next. After putting the wood pickguard I felt the sound changed for the better. I always thought the spruce gs mini sounded a tad too bright and the wooden pickguard decreased that brightness. I think its perfect now!
