Default Tacoma JM9-E6 Jumbo

GUITAR NO LONGER FOR SALE! I DECIDED TO KEEP HER! SORRY!

For sale is my Tacoma JM9-E6 Jumbo with the Baggs Miratone pickup system. This is an all-solid wood, Sitka spruce top, Honduras mahogany back and sides, rosewood fretboard, with herringbone rosette, and abalone inlays. It's a great sounding guitar and is very versatile. Can be very loud if you want it to be, but sounds great fingerstyle as well. I am a fingerstyle player and bought it originally for Kottke tunes. Made in the USA.

I purchased the guitar new 6-7 years ago. I believe this is a post-Fender made model. This is NOT a refurbished model and it does not have any type of the finish issues that plagued some of the earlier Tacoma models.

Why am I selling? Two reasons really. One, I'm trying to gather funds for a new guitar purchase and two, I simply can't handle the size anymore. I'm not a very big guy (5'6") and the JM9 can be uncomfortable for me for extended playing. I love the playability and sound, but I find myself gravitating towards smaller bodied guitars these days because they are easier for me and my frame to play.

There aren't a lot of these around anymore and they are hard to find other than some refurbished models. This particular model has the light satin finish and as such does not suffer from the finish issues that the gloss models had. It has one small scratch on the top and also a very small indention on the neck which I've shown in the pics. Other than that, she is in great shape and has been kept in a humidified case.

Comes with hard case. Buyer to pay any fees if they use PayPal. Will also take a money order or bank check. Photos are posted a few replies below.

Here are other details about the guitar:

Specs:
• Solid spruce top
• Solid mahogany back and sides
• Jumbo body shape
• Mahogany set neck
• LR Baggs Miratone preamp featuring a 2 band EQ (treble, bass), notch filter and master volume
• Rosewood fretboard with abalone dot inlays
• Tacoma die cast machine heads
• 4 color herringbone rosette
• Tortoise shell top body and fretboard binding
• Clear pickguard
• 20 frets
• 1.75” nut width 25.625” scale
• Made in the USA

I agree with Wooglins that the price being asked for this guitar is an excellent one, particularly since from the photos it appears to be in very good shape.

Just for your information, Mckee, there is no such thing as a "post-Fender" Tacoma guitar. The Tacoma Guitar Company was an independent firm that was ultimately purchased by the Fender Music Corporation, which then transferred Guild guitar production to that factory while continuing somewhat sporadic Tacoma guitar production for two or three years before shuttering that factory and ceased building all Tacoma guitars.

So there are "Pre-Fender Tacomas" and "Fender-era Tacomas" but no such thing as "Post-Fender Tacomas."

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks guys for the kind words, information, and for transferring one of the pics here .

Wade, I appreciate you clearing that up for me regarding the Fender acquisition. I never fully understood what exactly happened to the original Tacoma brand.

Yes, this is a great deal on a great guitar. All of the Tacoma jumbos I've ever played have all been monsters. Great tone and can be very LOUD!

I wish I could justify keeping her, but I just don't play her much anymore due to the size. This will be a great guitar for the right person.

I had one of these. They really good guitars and it is a good price.

String this bad boy up with mediums and it is an absolute monster!

You know, I've never gotten around to trying out mediums on her. I can imagine her being a beast though because the lights sound pretty darn good!

Right before I sold mine to a good friend, I put mediums on it. The feel of the rumble against my chest was incredible. I almost couldn't go through with the sale, but I couldn't do that to a friend.

Lol...it's hard for me to sell this one just because it sounds so good, but I just don't ever play her because of the size. I almost always reach for my CA OX just because of the size and it is always out on the stand.

Hi,
Can you take a precise measurement of the action at the 12th fret?
Can anyone elaborate on the "set neck"? Is it a dovetail, m&t...?
Thanks

Hi mbr12,

Sorry, just saw this response. I believe the neck is a bolt-on neck as that was Tacoma's normal process. I am currently out of town and not near the guitar, but I will get you a measurement when I get back home.

Thanks!
