Yeah, I think so. I would have thought it would be awful but it’s knock out.

Ben keeps on his steady pace. I have learned that not everyone does this, but Ben attaches the bindings to the sides and bends them both at the same time. To me it makes sense, but I am sure there are plenty of reasons others do them separately.

In this case it give us a good chance to see the Snakewood next to the black BRW! I love it, but then I should because we picked all the woods out together haha.

Close up, does this grain look straight enough for a guitar?

Thanks Dennis, I love it. Wait until you see the top. We are not sure we have nailed exactly what we were going for yet so I don't want to post pics of the samples yet until we are sure, but the top is going to be killer and should really work well with the bindings too!

As soon as we have zeroed in on the final top treatment, I will post pics.

LOL, nope I don't think so, but if there is a thing as too tight and too straight, we might be close with those sides!!! (Yes, I know they don't contribute to sound...)

I love snakewood or lacewood for bindings, good choice. Looks fantastic against the BRW. That looks like primo BRW too.

Thank you, I think the BRW is the ticket as well. I like the way the dark streaks in the snakewood will blend with the dark BRW and with the "treatment" Ben has in store for the top, the browns should play nicely as well!

Thanks for following along!

I am posting this next picture for those of you who have not had the pleasure of experiencing a custom build. Every detail is considered along the way.

Example one: Ben was doing a mock up of the headstock with a nice BRW veneer. His trademark is a diamond on the headstock and usually built into the rosette. His name is then inlaid on the back of the headstock veneer.

He glued the diamond on the front of the headstock and was not 100% convinced that he liked the look specifically the way it interacted with the grain of the veneer, so off it goes, no diamond, even though that is his thing, perfection comes first...I mean for 90% of us, this looks great, but he was not happy so off it comes. You gotta appreciate that!

Default Headplates

I've been making a lot of my head plates from book matched wood lately. I love the patterns, and the symmetry matches the symmetry that you find on the back and top. It just seems to make sense. I used to put my name on the front of the headstock, but then I decided, who needs to look at that all the time? So it was banished to the back, and now, more and more, I am enjoying a completely unadorned headstock. Just letting the wood itself and the joinery do the talking. It may be speaking quietly, but I love what it has to say. Three cheers for simplicity!!!

Default Soundport

Yes- if you look carefully you can see that the wood is doubled between two side braces on the upper player's bout. There is also a layer of thin maple sandwiched between the two plies which will not be visible until after I have cut the soundport out.

Wow--yet another beauty from Ben and Tom!

Love the wood combo and look forward to hearing it sing.

Very curious about the mysterious "treatment" to the top...
