I now second the idea for Redwood Pernambuco - if only because I have never seen one in the wild.

well, what I would do is jump at the P if it is quartered. I also have one from
Bruce and it has very beautiful and elegant voice.

Well, the Redwood/Pernambuco combo sounds like a winning combination, but for me, I've decided to go with the German Spruce/Pernambuco combo for this McKnight Lowlander model. Part of the reason for this is that I expect this combination to be more versatile than the LS/MB combo for different musical styles. Yes, the P set is quartersawn, overall a very high quality set according to Tim. I was able to handle it myself, and it has a great tap tone--it gives off a very balanced, "full spectrum" tone that seems to sustain endlessly. That was my impression, at least.
The German top Tim has set aside is up to the challenge--super stiff and loud! One thing I can say after visiting the hallowed McKnight wood room is that Tim makes no compromises in his selection of tonewoods and is meticulous about every detail. Very reassuring. The build will probably start around the beginning of the new year, and we'll start a thread.
