The new US made Guilds are great. I was in a shop and another guy brought his in to compare to a Marquis. I think his was the 50 or 55 (rosewood, if I recall). We were passing guitars around and he handed me his. It sounded amazing. I really liked it a lot--way more than I expected to. Ditto for a 1970s Bluegrass guild they had in the shop.

Collings are great, and loud,, but you will be hard pressed to find one anywhere new $2K. Even $3K would be a stretch.

I would 100% go for a post-2012 D18 on the used market. They are one of the best values around. If I had a D-18 for my only acoustic it could do pretty much everything I needed it to.

How about this guy. A little over your budget, but still.... https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=625577

I'd also add the LL16 to that list.

For the original poster, the term 'Cannon' does not necessarily just mean 'loud' but is a guitar that projects the sound accurately a good distance. Tonal quality is just as important as volume.

I just bought a D-18 from M. friend and I was comparing it to my Eastman E10ss for about an hour and I ended up sending it back. I guess the Martin sound just isnt for me. Its not my dollar, but if it was, I would look at a Eastman E20D-tc or the E10D-tc. Both guitars punch way over their price points. Just my 2 cents. I had a Martin DSS-17 for a while and I actually liked it better than the D-18.

Used D-18. I wanted one and got one a few months ago for well under 2k. Check Reverb often and this forum, and also used from Guitar Center.

Someone else mentioned used Guilds. If I were to get another dread, I'd probably look for D25 or similar , there are a few lesser known models all solid that are very affordable.

Taylor dreads are also tempting - a DN3 or 310/410 are good buys and have 1-3/4" nut width.

Default Used 18

I got my used (2020) 000-18 for $1,999 so you can get a used D-18 for the same price as 000 and the D are the same price new. I traded my 2020 D-16 and some $ for it.
