Such a beautiful guitar! I’ve never seen aYairi in the wild but this particular model is one that really interests me. Congrats on a great find!

Really nice looking guitar! I especially like the 12 fret. How would you say the tone compares to other brands?

mattwood, hard to say. Definitely not Taylorish or Gibson-like, nor like a Martin.

Not unlike my Guild, maybe, although sweeter. Not as powerful (in a good way).

A-Ys have a tone all their own. Very resonant and rich.

Going on a couple of weeks now that I've owned this lovely instrument.

I'm telling you guys, sell a kidney, rob a liquor store, do whatever you have to do to buy one of these guitars.

I've owned maybe 30 acoustics, and 9-10 were Yairis. This is the best of all of them.

Pretty, is the word I've decided upon to describe the tone. Incredible playability. Love the slight V neck and the 1 13/16" nut.

Every song I've been playing for 40 years sounds better. Gotta run, going to go play "Willin'" for half an hour.

Trust me on this.

I understand your excitement. In the last year I've picked up two Yairis, both folk models . I never thought I'd say this but I'm giving serious thought to letting my two Martins go to get another Yairi or two. I love everything about them. The necks, the tone, the fit and finish and as much as I hate the term, "for the money" there just isn't a better value out there. You'll pay north of 4 grand for anything comparable from the big three American guitar brands. I think the direct coupled bridge is a large part of what makes these things special. It's inteligent physics at work from the mind of a late master luthier.

TerryD, you make good points. I would like to have an older DY-57 or DY-77, but am thoroughly impressed with the newer Masterworks.

"For the money" is accurate, but could certainly be omitted.

One thing I've learned from this guitar.

Long ago I decided that I didn't care for 80/20s, and started using PBs exclusively. Mostly Elixir Lights, although I've been experimenting with Stringjoys and Woodtones recently, both in PB Lights. Nothing but PB Lights now for several years.

So I bring this Yairi home and play it daily, can't put it down. I love the strings. They sound terrific, hold their tune, and feel good too. So I contacted the guy who sold it to me and asked him what kind of string were on it, and was surprised at the answer- D'Addario Coated 80/20 Bronze, Lights.

Shows you how much I know!

What strings have you ended up using on it? Sorry I didn't respond to your private messages sooner. What Yairi are you looking at adding when available?

I am stuck on the GHS Vintage Bronze (85/15PB) for this guitar as they are balanced, warm and let the wood tones come through. For me they are the choice over the original D’Addario EXP16’s and their PB 80/20’s.

I am considering adding a DYMR70SB at this time… to achieve a different tonality.

I think the Alvarez-Yairi line is superb!

I've never heard of those strings, I'll have to give them a try.
