My friend got a great shot of the Kingfisher today - I was a 1/2 second too slow!
This is her shot ... on a much higher grade camera than I use!

This guy showed up in a tree in my garden yesterday - Collared Sparrowhawk - a.k.a. 'Chicken Hawk' here in Australia.

I got to spend the week with my new 8-week old grandson. This photo was taken during a tour of the Budweiser brewery, which was great fun on a nice winter's night in St. Louis.

Was walking across the front yard about 10 yrs ago & heard the familiar metallic whistling of a Crested Pigeon taking off when all of a sudden was an almighty WHACK!!. Looked around & about 5m away it was pinned to the ground with a sparrowhawk squeezing the life out of it with those deadly yellow talons just like the one in your pic.

Went to take a closer look & the clearly annoyed raptor managed to drag/lift its quarry (which would have been at least a third its weight) across the road to the neighbour's yard so I thought to let nature take its course. Had a look about an hour later & nothing left but feathers.
