Auditory memory is such that unless you play guitars within a short time span, comparison is useless. Yes, experience will help you evaluate a guitar, but only playing something back to back will let you note differences, but it does not effect in any way which you will like. Modern guitars. IMHO, have never been more consistent. Buying on line is the worst way to buy a guitar, also IMHO.

Now that online dealers have been made to charge tax, the playing field is at least more even with walk-stores being able to compete. There's now more incentive for the consumer to buy guitars based on how they feel and sound rather than on how they might feel and might sound.

When I realized that with the possible exception of a life partner, there probably isn't "the one". But that does not mean there aren't some really good ones

I have bought and sold and commissioned for something like 20 years. I have owned or played guitars made by most of the most famous lutheirs of this golden age where it comes to fongerstyle guitars. Pretty much all have been sold despite the fsct that I have owned amazing playing and sounding guitars. I pretty much resigned myself to the idea that there was no such thing as the grail guitar or the 'one' but there was this one more luthier I hadn't checked out yet. I recently got a guitar made by him which was not even made in the tonewood combo that I have always greatly favored, and suddenly I found THE tone that now defines what a guitar at its best is supposed to sound like - to me at least...

I am happy for both of you. Looking forward to pictures and reviews.

I stopped looking for The One, when I first dated my wife - 44 years ago yesterday.

Oh, you meant guitars...

Did we ever find out if it sounded like a cardboard box full of wet socks when he got it home?
