Ronson is awesome. That stripped finish Les Paul Custom... so cool! Great tasteful playing. Didn’t he play in the band Bob Dylan toured with - the one Scorsese did the film about?

Love that Moonage Daydream... so good!

Big Ronson fan here - strangely enough, my favorite album featuring him is Bowie's 'Hunky Dory' - in fact, I tackled 'Andy Warhol' last night on a whim without having seen this post.

It's my understanding that Ronson did a lot of the arrangements on HD which is probably why I like it so. Also, starting with 'Aladdin Sane,' Mike Garson on keys began to dominate the Bowie sound. While understandable (I absolutely love his keyboard work on 'Lady Grinning Soul'), Ronson did have to take a step back a bit to allow space for Garson.

'Slaughter on Tenth Avenue' is my favorite Ronson solo LP - shame he never really caught on as much as Mainman had hoped.

My first 'real' concert was Bowie's Diamond Dogs tour in '74 but, alas, it was Earl Slick on guitar, not Ronson. *sigh*

Absolutely one of the most tasteful players ever. I had the amazing opportunity to meet him and speak with him for a bit when he was playing with Ian Hunter in the Hunter Ronson Band around 1989. He was incredibly nice to everyone in my group (as was Ian Hunter). Seeing Ronson play Sweet Dreamer live was mesmerizing.

Big Ronson fan. So tasteful and the tone so distinctive (partly based on using a cocked wah).

FWIW, here's an excellent article discussing Ronno's legacy: https://www.loudersound.com/features...of-mick-ronson

I got turned on to Ziggy by my older sister (God rest her soul!), and loved all the guitar work though wasn't sure exactly who was pulling it off.
Great stuff!

I’m a massive Mick Ronson fan, his cover of Slaughter on 10th Avenue is just amazing....

Great guitarist!!

I actually discovered him through the Ian Hunter solo album after leaving Mott. There are some really rockin’ tunes on that one!!

Ian Hunter: "When he started the Rolling Thunder tour, I said to him, ‘What’s it like?’ He said, ‘Oh, it’s all in’ C, F and G, y’know’.”

I don't know why, but that made me laugh.

Oh, but how he played in those C, F and G's! You should have seen it. Mick Ronson stuck out like an ostrich at a rodeo, but he played so well and tastefully behind everyone on stage, it was a beauty to hear. Same with Scarlett Riveria, she just blended her playing into what the others played, but I think she really just played with Bob. Ronson backed everyone on the tour.

I love that. I'm just not sure I could pull it off with my English accent.

Its funny, but when I saw him solo in a club a few years later, I don't remember anything particular about what he was wearing. Which tells me he was very much not in Spiders style regalia.

Not that he ever looked like a folkie or a flannel clad grundge guy, but he did not always look glam either. I wonder if Dylan had wanted him that way, or if he chose that to kind of stand out a bit from the vibe the others were putting out.
