Price check for 98 HD-28 smokies Top
On my local craigslist. We are meeting in person and was just curious what a fair offer would be. it's a custom shop model so not really sure of it's value. Any input is appreciated....thanks

Given the specs such as forward shifted bracing, I'd say it's closer to a HD-28V with a red spruce top instead of Sitka. If we go with the common used pricing for one in good condition (50% of new list price) it would go for around $2300, but the red spruce adds a premium IMO. I think the requested price is fair, if slightly high. If it's in good condition, doesn't need a neck reset, etc., I could be OK with the price requested. It wouldn't stop me from making a counter offer, but I'd be prepared to get close to the asking price.
Good luck - let us know the result!

I ordered a similar guitar back in February. HD-28, Adirondack top and bracing, standard position bracing rather than forward shifted, Mod V neck with custom string spacing for under 3 k. Based on that I don’t think the price is far off if the guitar is in great condition. I’d offer $2500 and be happy if the seller took it. Good luck.

I'd want a couple of good closeups to confirm its a Smokies top, although it does appear that it could be. He's pricing it like an early LSV, which to me is a little higher than it should be in the current market. Then again, Smokies tops don't come up all the time and we're only talking $200-300 off where I think it should be. Someone has added Waverly tuners and AA pins, so that's helpful if you like those things. Just depends on how bad you want a Smokies top...once you're sure that's what it is.
