Sliding an open C Major chord to a D chord

Peter Buck slides back and forth between the C/G and the Dadd4add9/A in the intro and verses of "Man on the Moon." But I learned it first playing "Closer to Fine" 5 bazillion times in college for all the groovy California girls.

If you like the sound of the Dadd4add0, you'll love the sound of it arpeggiated. It takes the edge off that 1/2-step interval that's too dissonant for some ears.

Learned that C to D slide in Little Feat's " Willin' ". I think it's the best part of the song.

Except justinguitar who showed to slide an open C major chord up 1 step or 2 frets in place of the normal open D major chord.
While it's easy enough I'm not sold on the sound yet, still playing with it.
Anybody else use this chord?

Well if you don't mute the first and third string you end up with Dsus2sus4....

Slide the C major chord up two frets and make it a D7. Alternate the bass lines, then slide back down to C Major and you have the basics for Neil's "Sugar Mountain".

Oh yeah, this (sliding) sounds so cool when playing triplets, minors, or whatever. I use it almost daily.

I also slide Fmajor7 that same way in a song that I wrote.

I’m pretty sure Brandi played Closer to Fine once or twice in her youth, so she’d be pretty familiar with that chord.

As an aside, just saw her in Niagara doing one of her solo shows. She was amazing. Don’t miss out if you get the chance.
