It would seem that the GP for adults is little more than a gateway/referral tool to specialists these days. “Does your toe hurt? Let me refer you to a podiatrist I work with in the system.” “I work with him/her all the time …wink, wink.
They don’t even do some of the basics anymore, nurse practitioners do that. They get paid for “wellness” visits and you’re in and out of there. It’s a system that appears to be concerned with monitoring your “health” but the cynic in me says it’s a money-making deal. There is a distinct disconnect between your GP and your specialist(s) in today’s system. Once you’re passed along the GP is pretty much uninvolved. Everybody does their thing and rarely the twain shall meet. That has been our experience many times over for our family members and ourselves. YMMV.

I wasn't feeling a little off last weekend with some minor pain in my stomach. I thought it was gas. When it didn't go away after a couple of days, I decided to check in with my doc. We did the "tele-doc" thing but since I was actually really close to the office, he asked me to stop in. Though the symptoms weren't exact or even that severe, he had a hunch I had appendicitis and scheduled a CT scan for the same day. He was right and I was in surgery within a few hours, just as it was starting to burst.
Normally, I would have just waited and let my body heal but I'm REALLY glad I decided to have a chat with my doc. The outcome could have been soooo much worse.

I had a dear friend and playing partner pass away because of hepatitis. He was always healthy, and self-employed so he didn't have health insurance. Basically, he never visited a doctor and as many, carried a negative attitude about them. One day he started bleeding out of every hole, so he went to the VA. He had hepatitis. I forget what letter of hepatitis. He thought that he had probably got it when he was in Vietnam. It was something that was completely curable at an earlier point but at the stage he was at there was no hope. I miss him.

My heart goes out to you brother. Mrs. EZ is just now coming to the end of her Ovarian cancer journey. Doc. says time is short. At home with Hospice now. Such a very sad thing to witness. We've been inseparable for nearly 40 years. Prayers to both you and Mrs.Jelly As for me. My prayers have tuned from miracle, to mercy. Advice, Let her know she is loved, every day. Take each day as it comes. Rejoice the good days. Lennon was right. All You Need Is Love |

My heart and prayers go out to both of you. My wife and I have been together over forty years. She just went through an Ovarian issue herself. I realized once again that I don't know how to live alone. Again, my heart goes out to you.
