The one that I use for everything- J45 custom Shop purevoice 2012. One of only 200 made. Trance Audio Amulet pup. Recording, gigs live, campfire, rehearsal, does it all and does it well.

The one I just built at The Henderson School for the Appalachian Arts currently holds that position. I'm amazed it sounds so good. No blowing my horn as I had A LOT of help. Wayne, Spencer, Josh, and Marty are amazingly gifted luthiers who helped every step of the way. Thanks Guys!

My Stehr, Carpathian Spruce over Malaysian Blackwood. It has a richness and resonance that amazes me every time I play it.

My short-scale Bourgeois Adirondack/mahogany Slope D Banjo Killer is my best sounding acoustic I’ve ever owned and in the top 3 of best acoustics I’ve ever played. Lots of volume with clarity and balance that is incredible.

Obviously I feel like all my acoustics are outstanding for the purpose I bought them for. However, that being said if I had to live with only one acoustic for the rest of my life it would be my '59 J-45. It has the tone I hear in my head when I think "good acoustic guitar".

Love the comfort of the smaller body guitars, but can't get over the tone of a great rosewood dread - in my case, that is a Thompson D-EIA.

I am lucky enough to have 5 special acoustics. The one that is my favorite to play changes constantly. I do think, tho, that the Lowden, The SC OM, and the Flammang RS each have a very special something in the sound department - especially when I get around to putting on new strings.

Best sounding - my Martin CS D-18S 12 fret with sinker back and sides. Got it for a song as it had binding separation issues and needed some extensive setup work. After a trip to my local repair guy, she's in fine shape. Sound of the angels, but it's a handful and demands precise playing.

Now best sounding and playing - my Gibson J-35. LOVE this guitar. It's so forgiving and easy to play well, and very versatile. This is the one that inspires me every time I pick it up.

Always an interesting question, and the answer will often change as a player gets older or tastes change as a result of life circumstances.

My current favorite is a home brew size 0 slot head mahogany:

In the store-bought variety I also have a lovely Taylor 322 that's right up there at the top of my personal ranking.

Hard question.

My four acoustics, even if it's just two brands, all sound quite different because, well, they're different. Acoustically, I'd go with my DN3e. THAT dreadnought tone!!!! Plugged in, my Ovation Ultra fills stadiums with so minimal effort, and it doesn't hurt that it's the easiest to play from the bunch, although the feel of all four guitars are top notch.
