REALLY? ONLY 5?!? You're killing me!!! You could have at least done 10!
Sigh, let's see... 1.) Get Your Wings - Aerosmith 2.) Machine Head - Deep Purple 3.) Hotel California - Eagles 4.) Aqualung - Jethro Tull 5.) Extreme - III Sides To Every Story The first four are 'from my youth' and received extremely heavy play (along with dozens of others!). Highway Star got me out of bed for high school every morning my senior year! The last one is one of my all-time favorites years later. So many left on the table. I'll never forgive you, OP!! |

Yes! To my ear, there isn't a weak song on the record.
Made the blues sound "new" to me.

Nearly every album mentioned so far in this thread would be in my top 50 or 75 - that’s really how many I’d want in an actual “desert island” situation. I wouldn’t change my top 5 (today - tomorrow my list might be vey different, except for Exile in the top spot), but there ar so many great albums that were my very favorite for some period of time. And many of my favorites have come up here. I didn’t mention The Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, Tom Petty, The Allman Bros, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Richard Thompson, Robert Cray, Dire Straits, the Kinks, Muddy Waters, BB King, CSN, John Hyatt, or many others who I truly LOVE. Five albums is a ridiculously small number of albums to represent my favorite music.
Edit - I somehow managed to leave Hendrix, BB,Muddy, and the Allman Bros off this expanded list, so I went back in and added them, but not before this post was quoted, which just exemplifies the scope of the problem with trying to come up with a list like this. There are so many ARTISTS, let alone ALBUMS, that I overwhelmingly love, that it’s impossible for a list of five to be anything other than the ones that are on my mind at the moment… -Ray
