I initially tried phosphor bronze and then 80/20 on my c.1937 Slingerland Songster (solid spruce/laminated maple).

When I eventually put Martin Retro monels on it, the guitar totally came alive and the tone became rich and balanced. It makes sense, considering it's totally possible that the guitar was originally voiced for a similar strong alloy.
