It would be easy me to go with 5 Dylan thru Blood on the Tracks. However, if I’m going to be on the island a long time with chance of good behavior or getting off for it, have to include

Monk - Round Midnight
Coltrane - Favorite Things
Dylan - from Concert for Bangladesh
Hendrix - Electric Ladyland
Stones - Let it Bleed

can we trade something else for more albums?

Jeff

The answer to your request may be different depending on one's mood and other factors.

In random order here are the 5 Albums I would take to Gillgan's island:

Beethoven Symphony no 6,Karajan,Berlin Philharmoic

Weather Report: "8:30"

Lightfoot:"Gord's Gold II"

Moody Blues:"A Question of Balance"

Paul Desmond "Take Ten"

I know what at least 2 of mine would be:

- Grand Funk, E Pluribus Funk
- Steppenwolf, The Epic Years

Without power for the record player, I could still use their reflective silver album covers as a distress signal mirror for any passing plane or ship.

I really couldn't imagine limiting myself to just 5 choices for some future scenario so I simply looked to my past. These 5 (and some runner ups) are the music that has been in my ears the most for the past 50 years or so. Always handy, always immediately replaced if rendered non functional (as close to the original configuration as possible), and often listened to. No particular order:

Old Train The Seldom Scene
Elvis' Gold
Beethoven 4th Bernard Haitink & the London symphony
Top Priority Rory Gallagher
Jo + Jazz Jo Stafford

Honorable Mention:
Waiting for Columbus Little Feat
Live At Filmore East Allman Brothers
"White Album" Beatles
Temptation's Greatest Hits Temptations
Endless Summer Beach Boys

Truth to tell all of the "honorable mentions" meet the same criteria as the 5 winners and could easily go on that list.

Sgt. Peppers - The Beatles

Ambrosia (first) - Ambrosia

Forever Changes - Love

David Grisman Quintet (mid 70s - amazing

Toy Matinee - Toy Matinee (1990)

But there's another 500 I could have chosen.

Souvenirs - Dan Fogelberg
Only - Tommy Emmanuel
Harvest - Neil Young
Minstrel in the Gallery - Jethro Tull
Led Zepplin 4

Honorable mention - Red Octopus - Jefferson Starship.

There's so much that I loved to listen to - Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Cat Stevens, Gordon Lightfoot, Grateful Dead, etc, etc. It's a really long list, just like every other guitarist/musician's list.

Stevie Wonder - Innervisions
Simon & Garfunkel - Live From NYC, 1967
Joshua Lee Turner - As Good a Place as Any

This, off the top of my head!

“1” Beatles
“Decade” Neil Young
“The Collection” Bob Dylan
“Paul Simon Anthology” Paul Simon
“1000 Classical Masterpieces” Various Artists

These 5 albums gives me in the neighborhood of 2000 songs. That should keep from getting bored for a while.
