Default "I Don't Run From Banjo Music" CAUTION--BIGFOOT CONTENT!

... and banjo jokes aside, probably most of y'all don't run from it either. So, what's this comment all about? Well, several months ago I came across a YouTube channel entitled, My Bigfoot Sighting. Being a skeptical believer in the existence of Bigfoot (Sasquatch), I've watched and listened to many episodes of the podcast in which folks who've encountered Bigfoot relate their sightings in a no-frills, no-host-no-questions-asked, personal narrative with beautiful scenic videos as a backdrop. What caught my attention was the theme song at the beginning and end of each episode. The song, "I Don't Run (From Banjo Music)" is from the 2020 album, A DIRT ROAD AND A DREAM by Nashville-based singer-songwriter Nathan Brumley. Although this haunting song has nothing to do with Bigfoot, as it's really a recollection and celebration of the singer's musical heritage, its inclusion in the show seems to fit well with the show's subject. The song has me imagining a Bigfoot being attracted to some after-dark, front-porch banjo-picking and listening and watching--unbeknownst to the pickers--from the shadows at the edge of a Smoky Mountains farm's nearby forest. I hope you like this song as much as I do. Thanks for looking in and listening. Watch My Bigfoot Sighting On YouTube

Moderator: Please leave this thread in Other Musical Instruments as it will hopefully be appreciated by more AGFers than in the Listen section. Thanks!

I Don't Run
Nathan Brumley

Seen a bunch of run-down no horse towns
Where the church is the backbone and love's in the plow
And that 5-string melody's groovin'

With the farmland rows where the roots run deep
Beyond the noise of the busy streets
Where the songs of the South are soothing
When I hear that front porch pickin' down-home rhythm ringing out
I don't run from banjo music

The sound of a memory brings me back
To that bluegrass playing on my dad's 8 track
His pickup man it'd been through it

Getting through the day on Scruggs and Skaggs
Bucking hay bales to those Tennessee jams
There's no other way that I'd do it
When I hear that front porch pickin' down-home rhythm ringing out
I don't run from banjo music

Some may call it backwards back woods in double time
Can't hear the soul in that tremolo Kentucky style
These are the anthems strumming out country boy livin'
When I hear that front porch pickin' down-home rhythm ringing out
I don't run from banjo music

The pace of the city life drives me wild
The only tune is the cars rushing by
With the bass on their stereos blooming
But when I hear that front porch pickin' down-home rhythm ringing out
I don't run from banjo music

Some may call it backwards back woods in double time
Can't hear the soul in that tremolo Kentucky style
These are the anthems strumming out country boy livin'
When I hear that front porch pickin' down-home rhythm ringing out
I don't run from banjo music

Some may call it backwards back woods in double time
Can't hear the soul in that tremolo Kentucky style
These are the anthems strumming out country boy livin'
When I hear that front porch pickin' down-home, Rose's fried chicken, porch swing, Mama's best sweet pea, comes down
I don't want to run from banjo music

So, does anyone like the song? Is it a tune you'd care to add to your repertoire? It could easily fit into a Bluegrass, Americana, or country-rock band's setlist.

I play banjo and I really like this song. I'd like to learn to play it. Toughest part is a lot of words coming so quickly. Gets to be an issue at 75. But I'm going to give this a try for sure.

FireLakeKid, we're in the same boat. I'm 73 and want to learn this song. Whether played solo or in a band, this song is ripe for everything from simple Scruggs-style picking to frailing to full-chordal power strumming within the course of its dynamics.

Folks, meet Jake. This is a male Sasquatch that Canadian researcher Todd Standing has been following and interacting with, along with Jake's family, for a decade or so. Todd estimates Jake is now about 25 years of age. This picture is from about 5 years ago and is a still photo taken from a video Todd made circa 2017. Is this a guy in a monkey suit or the real deal? Your thoughts are welcome on the song "I Don't Run From Banjo Music" and on Bigfoot (Sasquatch). Have any of you had what you think was a Bigfoot sighting? Thanks.

Has any banjo player tackled "I Don't Run (From Banjo Music)" yet? It leads off on Dm.

Yessir! It isn't the banjo we run from. It is the kid with the high forehead and his older compatriots.

I feel deprived - I have not seen a Bigfoot, nor aliens, nor a UFO. But I have seen a banjo.

The condition is known as hypertrichosis. Some have called it werewolf syndrome. It's an actual genetic mutation that causes excess hair to grow all over the body including the face.

That ain't no sasquatch. It's a man with hypertrichosis.

Jake also has a sister that Todd Standing has named Jane. She looks somewhat different. Frankly, of the two I think Jake got the looks in the family. I'll see if I can post a still photo of Jane from Todd's video. I have now opened this thread up for Jake & Jane nursery rhymes or even "nice" ribald rhymes!

This is a still from a video taken with a telephoto lens and high-quality video camera from quite a distance and represents probably the best photo I've seen of a Sasquatch. Todd Standing says that Jake is now well over 8 feet tall and weighs likely 800 lbs. or more There are PhDs, Dr. Jeff Meldrum, Idaho State University, and the late Dr. John Bindernagle, a Canadian biologist, who from their research are quite certain that a bipedal hominid-like creature is indigenous to various areas all over the world. These hominid-like beings are reportedly quite intelligent and tend to avoid humans. I'm a skeptical believer but would like to have one of these creatures finally captured, studied, and released.

Tony, seeing a banjo is almost as scary as seeing a Bigfoot and it's even scarier than a Bigfoot when someone starts to play a banjo!
