Default Colorful Guitars

Do you think guitar manufacturers should start offering optional colors to increase their sales? How about a D-28 in purple sunburst?

Saw a man in Martin's repair area of the factory working on a all gray burst dread. It was a beautiful guitar. Had to be a custom job. Wish I had gotten a picture.

Taylor used to make all kinds of colored guitars back in the day.

Well, electrics have been tricked out since forever. I think as a stage "presence" thing it's cool, tho I could never do it. (says the guy with the Dove)...

to each their own. remember(well, maybe you don't) that henry ford said you could have any color car as long as it is black. in the late 70s with the advent of metal, colors began to change as well as designs.

play music!

Right now Gibson is offering:

White Hummingbird
Olive Green J-45
Neon Green J-45
Techno Pink Hummingbird
Vine Viper Blue SJ-200
Denim Blue J-45
Big Sky Blue Hummingbird
White Dove

That doesn't count the more common: Wine Red, Ebony, various bursts, and a lot of MOP/Abalone.

I want to see the beauty of the wood, and not even as much as a pickguard covering it up!

This busker I snapped seems to have taken matters into his own hands, he was playing some Bowie . . .

IMO only Fender and Gretsch ever got it right...

My 2002 Guild F-412 is red.
The good people over on the Guild forum tell me this colour was only made for 2 years.
I didn't buy it because it was red, I bought it because it was a Guild jumbo 12-string I could afford at the time.
Factory 2nd, faulty top coat - apparently Fender installed a new spray booth/system at the Corona site and they experienced some 'teething' problems.
Plays and sounds superb.

I'm sure all of the big manufacturers would make a guitar in any color you wish. It's a custom request and comes with an up charge.

Taylor has the build your own program where you can create your own one off guitar. They used to have a six week turn around once the order is placed. Not sure if that is still the case, but six weeks is pretty quick for a custom order.

Let me think about it for a minute...

No...

Let me ponder it for a moment...

No...

It's unanimous then...

No and No...

Well, if bursts count as color, then yes.
My FG800 has a nice sandburst finish to the top.

On acoustic guitars I'm not a fan of anything but natural wood, no stain/dye/paint please.
I don't even like sunburst or "aging toner".

That said, I forgive my 1973 Guild D44M for its red-stained flame maple since I didn't buy it.
I inherited it, not to mention it plays and sounds like a dream.
For some applications I prefer it over my D-55.

For electric guitars and amps I LOVES me some strongly saturated colors.
I have a Les Paul in a deep rich blue, and this cherry red ES-335.
My holy-grail amp is a Tone King in a turquoise that reminds me of a Ford Thunderbird Doris Day might have driven in a 1957 Technicolor film.
