Default PRS SE Silver Sky

I just pre-ordered the PRS SE Silver Sky (in Stone Blue). I'm very excited! I also got the bone nut installation with set-up (from Sweetwater). I'm curious to see how it compared to my Fender American Performer Stratocaster.

Very cool congrats ....
And who knows it may become a collectors item, as one of the most controversial Strat copies in history. Not because of being different, or similar, or anything technical or design wise ,,,,,,But simply because it was that darn unrepentant upstart PRS, that did it

Reverb.com has their guy Andy doing an introduction video for this SE series SilverSky. Skinnier and flatter rosewood neck(i like that) than the original, but no maple yet. Noiseless single coils(Korean i think) and four colors to choose from. The O.P. picked the Stone Blue(Sonic Grey in Fender speak) and thats a great choice for this axe.

I like this guy's treatment too.

And, to be clear, the neck is maple. The fingerboard is rosewood.

Yes- the neck is maple with a satin finish (which I like- my sweaty hands stick to gloss) with a rosewood fretboard. Mine is supposed to arrive between March and May. I texted my guitar instructor after I ordered mine and he texted me back and said that he had ordered one too- exact same color. Maybe he will do a YouTube review of his. He also has the $2,500 Silver Sky (I see a potential comparison video there). I'm not sure if he did the bone nut or not.
The above video of John Mayer explaining and playing it is really good. Kind of sold me on it. The Mary Spender YouTube comparison video convinced me to do the bone nut installation.

I want one of these for sure, and I thoroughly enjoyed the video. What bugs me about John Mayer is he seems like such an eccentric personality and super talented on the fretboard, but his music he writes is just kind of dull and tame. I don't hear the dynamics in his songwriting that you would expect given how he handles solos and the music theory. I wish the drugs or whatever is going on in his brain would make its way into his music. It's odd that such a great rock and all around guitarist is an adult-contemporary star.

Fantastic! The neck will mostly feel differently than your Fender when you do your comparison.

I think the SE Silver Sky is going to be a huge seller this year.

For a company known to be the cutting edge of electric guitars, with industry leading high end hardware, woods and finishes, this Sliver Sky line is a step backwards for PRS. Not because it’s not a good instrument, but because it makes them look lazy. They could have introduced a bespoke triple single coil solid body guitar, wrapped in that stunningly beautiful Custom 24 body style. I just don't get it.

My guitar guy at Sweetwater called me today and said it will be here by summer. He said that the first shipment sold out immediately.

It's a Mayer sig guitar, and he's a Strat guy. It's a body shape they've used before. It's getting more buzz than any single guitar I can remember. It's been selling extremely well as a core, will probably explode as an SE.

What's not to get?
