Default Ox or Gx

Hello everyone, IM thinking about getting a CA ox or gx to play at church. I played an ox thru a Loudbox mini and it sounded great. quite a bit more bottom than my yamaha apx 900. I havent played a gx yet, so i dont know. any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, John

I have played both the GX is a more expensive guitar, very well thought of and a little bigger. Very tuff choice, but I would probably GX, that's the way I remember it, but either one is a fine guitar.

It's a journey, with no right or wrong answers just a lot of fun guitars. You will find your tastes may change after you cross over.

I have a GX, which I love. I have played an OX briefly which I also thought was great, but my take is that the GX is a better as an all-rounder, the OX definitely feels like a smaller guitar, has less "oomph", which may or may not be an issue, depending an what you need. Note, the GX is quite heavy (compared to other CF guitars), and from memory, the OX is lighter.

Hey John, the voicing of the GX is vastly different from the OX
Both are more suited for rhythm strumming, in my opinion
think you really gotta hear the comparisons in YouTube before you decide; MacNichol and ichiwon has done several excellent comparative videos there
If you enjoy more bass in your axe (like me), you may wish to consider the GXi or Xi instead
There, more choice to muddy the waters

A great big welcome to you Jmackay...You are among friends Amigo!!! I also arrived on this site and was blown away by the friendly members...Thus I bought an Emerald X20-OS. To further "muddy the waters" there is also the Blackbird guitars that you might want to check out...
I have come to the conclusion that All of the Carbonfibre guitars are outstanding!!! Good luck on your journey!!!

Thanks for all the info. I spent some time on YouTube and found videos on the ox and gx. Plus videos on Rainsong. They are all soo cooool. I like the gx better than the ox and the Rainsong better than either CA. Oh well, I guess I'm really blessed to have to make decisions like this!! Could be worse. Thanks again, John

Wow, that's really an amazing switch-around; from the bass-y Composite Acoustics to crystal-trebles of the Rainsong?
What happened to the Emeralds and Blackbirds that are in-between these voicings ?

Wanted to love the two Rainsongs I had briefly but they both had issues. Got a CA GX with a 1-3/4 neck and it was well worth the wait. Very, very happy with it.

I have owned both the GX, GXi and OX all at the same time. My thoughts are depending on what kind of volume/Bass response you are after would come down to what I'd be looking for.

For me I think the GX is probably there best all around guitar. It seems to do just about everything very well. The GXi is very similar but to the player seems a little more bass response but not a night & day difference.

The OX is a smaller bodied more intimate guitar therefore that's kinda the way it sounds. Smaller but still a really nice guitar.

Thanks for all the input. I gotta play a gx yet. Next question is how much more expensive is the gx over the ox. i can get a new ox w/ bag for 1350.00 + tx at my local shop. But they dont have a gx right now. Also i guess the ox is neww enough that i dont see alot of them for sale used, yet. Missed the boat on a used gx on the forum just last week. (He who hesitates is lost forever). Thanks again, John
