Carbon Fiber Acoustic Guitars (Composite Acoustics)
Hi - This is Ellis Seal, the engineer that left Lockheed in 1998 to start Composite Acoustics
While I love great acoustic guitars, I am more of an engineer than a guitar guy - I get my kicks out of providing guitarists the best sounding, best playing, best looking, most carefree instruments on the planet, at an affordable price, and make them in the USA. I made a post on another acoustic guitar forum and got quite a lot of questions - I thought you guys might also have some interest. Here are some links if you want to check us out. I just read a review of the GA in Acoustic Guitar. They loved it.
I would like to try one someday. A friend of mine went to a composite guitar for touring. It made things much easier on her and the guitar.

Just happened on a GX Preformer the other day and was blown away! Now I'm selling off one of my 12 strings to finance a purchase. Great job on a fine guitar!

Do you plan on building a 12 string?

I played a couple of CA composite guitars..
suprisingly good sounding... I wonder what happens at refretting time.. can any competant repairman or Luthier do the job? Does it take a different process than wood? Is it only possible to refret from the CA manufacturer? Just curious Rick |

Hi Ellis,
I've strongly considered the X model after talking with Danny at Acoustic-Pro Musician but I'm in the minority that doesn't like a cutaway. Any chance of getting an X Performer non-cutaway anytime soon? I realize that production is market driven but it can't hurt to ask.

Hi Ellis,
I've owned a CA Legacy Aura and currently own a 2007 COT. They are absolutely fantastic guitars in both tone and playability. Just wondering, are there any differences in the bracing between the Performer series and the Player series? Because on your website, the Performer has a hybrid bracing while the Player has a traditional bracing. What are the differences in tone? And is it possible to show more NAMM pics of the guitars either on your website or mySpace? I am sure many of us would love to see more high res pics of different CA guitars up-close. Thanks! Cheers, Samuel

Hi, Ellis!
I have a late 2006 COT model (with the Imix, not the Aura), and it's a great guitar. I A/B'd it with many high-end guitars with Danny Brevard of AcousticProMusician.com (great guy!), and I'll have to say that it was very comparable in tone to guitars costing as much as 5x as the CA. I noticed in the thread in that other forum that you've got plans now to make a travel guitar. Will this be something the size of the Little Martin and/or Baby Taylor? If so, that would be awesome! Any idea of the price of one of these guitars yet? PS: I've got some photos you might be interested in. At Tin Pan South (a songwriter's convention held in Nashville every spring) this year, one of the shows had four songwriters . . and two of them were playing CA's. I've got pictures of all four together, just the two CA players, etc. I was thinking of an ad "two out of four country songwriters prefer CA". Also of note: GAC (or was it CMT?) was filming that concert, and it's supposed to air at some point . . . I think it's going to be called something like "Country Hit Men". I don't know if you're aware of it, or what your budget is for advertising, but perhaps it would be a great show for you to purchase some advertising/commercials in? |

Magic
Ellis,
What/how do you do this? Are you using magic dust or something? I got a new Legacy and it is truly incredible. Thanks for making one of the best guitars I have seen and played! |

Ellis--
Thanks for the post. Have you (or "C.A.") thought about becoming a "sponsor" here on AGF? Lots of buzz about Rainsong, Emerald and "C.A."--you MIGHT want to ante up the minor fee to be able to post as a manufacturer. You'd be the FIRST composite guitar maker to do so. Food for thought!

Welcome EllisS To the AGF I have heard some of your myspace sound clips and the thought of having a guitar that is humidty free is appealing to me.
From all the rave reviews I look forward to trying one out.
