It's a good one. Have you looked at "Walkin' the Basses"? That's another one from the same book. It's a pretty nice little tune and about the same difficulty. "Oh, Mary Don't You Weep," is another... I think that was the first fingerstyle song Steve ever learned.

Glad you're enjoying him. He's an excellent guitarist who really loves blues history... and a nice guy!

May I ask for the reference to that book please?

Hey RJ... sure, on this page... 3rd one down... It's the Fingerstyle Blues Songbook. Comes with a CD.

Thanks, going to add it to my wishlist (for when I feel ready to start using alternate tunings)!

Leafing through it on a well-known gigantic not-south-american online retailer I see that each song comes with a little introduction, which is a nice bonus.

Hi Kerbie,

I am doing a song a week with my teacher, taking them in order. So yes, I have learned "Walkin' the Basses" which was a fun tune.

This week is "Poor Boy" which is the first of several songs in open tuning using a slide. I didn't own a slide until yesterday!

I'm so glad we have guys like Steve, Tom Feldmann, Toby Walker, etc. to keep this music alive and teach it to us!

Hey RJ,

The intros are fun to read, they give you the history of the tune or style, and some playing tips. Most of the songs are traditionals or "in the style of" a well known artist.

Woody Mann has a similar book. It has a lot more songs and is more advanced. Steve's book is better for a novice fingerpicker. Not for an absolute beginner, but someone who has been playing chords for a while and has their thumb thinking on its own can have fun with it.

Enjoy!

Jerry, Duane and his favorite-- Stevie Ray. I'm just a glimpse in his rear view mirror speaking of his lack of driving skills. We will record and post Loan Me a Dime soon to break out of our Dead mode.
