Default How hot is too hot for acoustic in house?

We're having some work done in the house soon, and the air conditioner will be off in summertime Arizona. Outside temps are expected to top out at 103 degrees, and the air conditioning will be off for 3 days. Humidity will be okay in the house.

Do you think this would pose a danger for our acoustics?

Thanks!

If you keep them in their cases in a dark room, such as a closet, I doubt any damage will occur. But if you have a friend or neighbor who can store them for three days, I'd probably do that out of an abundance of caution.

Unlikely. My guitars have spent entire days out at jam sessions in summer heat above 100°. Not in the sun, but the air temp can get pretty warm around here too. I suffer but the guitars get by OK. Speaking of which, the National Old Time Fiddle Festival in Weiser starts is in two weeks and it is often quite warm during the endless day and night jam sessions.

If you are really concerned, put your guitar in its case, wrap the case up in extra blankets and put it in a closet, preferably down low (cooler air sinks). I would put a humidity device in the case just to be sure, but even three days will not be much of a threat.

You've already gotten good advice as to what to do while the AC is off. But just to state the maybe forgotten or not so obvious, be careful when reacclimating your guitars when the AC is turned back on. If you need to access it immediately after rehabitation you might want to store it with a neighbor to keep the instrument's environment more constant.

If you’re comfortable your guitars are comfortable.

Years ago I was going to be stationed in Germany for three years and I didn't want to take my old Brazilian rosewood D-28 with me. (I have no idea why.) I left the guitar in a closet at my parent's house. My dad thought he would do me a favor and took the guitar up to the attic for safe keeping. I have no idea what the temperature extremes were up there but it was HOT in the summertime. I was mortified when I got home and found my guitar in the attic but the guitar was fine.

135f is too hot. At temperatures below that the problem is more about the humidity than the heat.

If a multi-story house, you might keep them on the first floor. And in a room on the side opposite that heated by the sun.

That's my rule of thumb too.

You were VERY lucky, but I wouldn't count on that being a safe plan!
