I'm excited about trying one out! They look beautiful, I love the stained maple, and if they compare at all with the sound quality of my 18 year old 612 I will probably be trying to figure out a way to get one

It's a great guitar. Played it side by side with the 814ce and liked the new 614 more. Has the clarity and punch of maple but with a nice warmth to it. Friend has a 614 from a couple years back and it's a more jangly sound.

It's also a really pretty axe.

I was at NAMM today and played two of the two 614's and a 618 and a 12 string. They were all everything Taylor has said they are. I play with a thumbpick, and I can tell you the bottom end on these guitars is marvelous.

Default Innovation is the key

Well, I can't wait to see a new 614 DownUnder (though I know it might be a while) I'm so impressed to see Taylor continuing the changes they started with the 800's. Innovation is such an inspiring thing to me, and Andy Powers sure seems to be living up the huge challenge Bob Taylor has given him.

I love my Rosewood and Mahogany, and I only really liked one maple guitar before ( a Taylor, with a figured Maple back, not the usual flame) but I'm real curious to play the new 600's so I guess the Taylor team has got it right again ... at least for me ;-)

I made the trip to GC specifically to play one of these last week. it is a beautiful guitar. I like the darker stain on the back and sides. It was one of the loudest guitars I have ever played, which really surprised me. Much stronger in the lower register than previous maple guitars I've owned or played.

But, it had the chimey, brittle, jangley high end chatter in spades. That is the reason I have mostly moved away from Taylors. (I've owned 30 or more)

There are some videos I've seen where it sounds great, but this particular guitar didn't do it for me. I would like to here it without Elixers to see if that would warm it up a bit.

The Peghead video with Andy Powers is phenomenal. Never really thought much about maple guitars. The Peghead video has got me interested in maple now. It seems warm and balanced, though the bass was most powerful. I would be looking at the 612. Looking forward to trying one out.

Has anyone A/B'd an "old" 600 series to the new ones? My local shop has a 618e from last year that sounds outstanding.

Played these yesterday at NAMM. Nice looking and beautifully crafted, if you are a Taylor fan these will fit your bill. A bit on the bright side for me though.

+1. Not a fan of maple but these....oh man the gas just never gets satisfied. Sigh....

They sound better than they look!

Tried the new 614ce at the Falls Church Guitar Center. Didn't like it at all. Didn't sound anything like the video. Very bright guitar, as you would expect from Maple. This guitar wasn't covered in the normal GC goo. It was easy to play, but just didn't sound good.

I played a few other high end guitars after being disappointed by the 614ce (Martin 000-28, 812ce, and 714ce), but the best guitar I played that day was the Breedlove Oregon Concert. It has Myrtlewood back and sides with a Sitka Spruce top. I would have bought it, but I already have a Northwest Classic at home.

I played the new 614 First Edition at my local GC as well. It was a nice guitar, but not outstanding. I really was underwhelmed with everything except the looks. It didnt sound like the video...of course Andy Powers didnt hand make it like they show him doing in the video either. Its still a mass produced instrument so perhaps this one was a dud. Or perhaps the hype got ahead of this one and expectations werent realistic.

I like maple in large body guitars. Can't wait to try one of these new ones. I actually like natural colored maple though. Not sure about the new stain. I need to see one in person...

I can say that I tried one of the new 814ce's back to back with a 714ce (close to the old style 814ce) and liked the 714 a little more. Not that the 814 was bad in any way. Just that I'm not sure what I was expecting from the new 814 but it underwhelmed me I guess. Still a beautiful guitar and well made. Just didn't blow away the 714 in any way and from all the hype I think I was expecting more from it.
