Default LR Baggs lyric presence control

I understand that this needs to be adjusted, but how do you know when it is adjusted correctly?

"Correctly" is not an absolute thing.
It's your opinion of the sound with your gear that counts.

Plug into your amp/PA and turn it to one extreme, then the other extreme.
This will tell you the nature of sound quality extremes the Lyric can provide.

Then turn the adjustment to find the place between the extremes that sounds best to you.

I assume you'd re-tweek it if using a different PA/amp or even a different room or even a room that's full of people vs. empty.

This is a timely thread for me.
I just installed my Lyric and will soon plug it into my Bose L1.
I'm nervous.

FWIW, here is a screen capture from LR Baggs' online installation manual.

Click this link, then click on SUPPORT for the full PDF file:

You listen to your guitar and tweak the Presence screw a little, one way or the other, until you hear what you like and then

Then, you remove the Lyric and try another system. At least that's my experience with it.

Thanks for that. I had read that but I have never played an amplified guitar with a pickup before and I just did not know what I was supposed to be listening for. I am guessing I am looking to emulate the kind of tone I would get as if it were not amplified at all. I did not know what the word presence meant when it is referring to an instrument.

Just fiddle with it until you find a balance you like between "it is picking up my breathing—and thoughts" and "it sounds like my guitar is filled with blankets."

This gave me a chuckle.

I would add that before you do anything, set the treble and bass controls on the PA/amp to neutral. Later you can adjust them to your liking as well.
