I've owned both, and have the same conclusion as everyone else. Cargo for tone and X7 for scale length.
IN CASE PEAVEY READS ANY OF THIS... How about a ~12 fret to the body, full scale Cargo (similar to 12 fret RainSongs)??? I've suggested this in the past to the independent CA just prior to it going out of business. It seems like a minimal tooling problem which only requires a custom fretboard and maybe some adjustment to the top bracing. The extra string tension might make the Cargo a bit louder, which is its only acoustic deficit to my ear.
