Default Amp testing methodology

In thinking about how to better communicate what character traits different amps produce and using useful language to describe them, I thought that it would be useful to hear how different players evaluate amps for their own use.

How do you all make the basic decison 'Do I like the sound' and then, how you evaluate your own hierarchy among amps you've used. A good description of how you listen to the amps and then, what you look for exactly.

If we can agree on good method, we can then start parsing through descriptive terms. This should be very useful to many of us to better understand what we're saying and how what we sT is perceived.
