Default Update

It has been over 3 months since I have received an update from SCGC or I have updated this build thread. This build thread sort of fell off the radar since January and I wanted to update the forum vs. just going missing in action. As of February, the guitar was scheduled to be delivered to my dealer (Eddie’s Guitars) by the end of March.

Unfortunately, as I understand it, SCGC’s shop operations have been significantly impacted by COVID impacting their scheduling and throughput. Additionally, their ability to take photos along the way has been impacted so I unfortunately do not expect to be able to provide any further build updates until the guitar is completed.

I am told that the guitar is now due to arrive at my dealer in June. I unfortunately will be traveling then, so I cannot take possession until July. Look for an update then.

Bummer, and unfortunately not surprising with a build that bridged the omicron wave. So I make your time in process to be 7 months based on the current estimate, my SC, finalized in April has an 8 month delivery plan. I'm cool with that, it took me over a year to decide what guitar I wanted :-).

By no means the end of the world, more a series of unfortunate circumstances. The guitar will come and I have every expectation that it will be magnificent…

One correction to your comment. I ordered the guitar in August 2021 and it is now scheduled for delivery to my dealer in June 2022, so it is 10 months in duration (it will be 11 months before I get it but that is not their fault). Stuff like this can indeed happen (no big deal). My only disappointment is that I wish someone at either SCGC or at my dealer would have notified me of the delay prospectively, before the March delivery date had passed…

Wow what a guitar that's going to be.

Just not sure if that makes it easier or harder to handle the delay

Thanks, it will no doubt be a fantastic guitar…

The wait is fine (sh*t happens). I was just a bit thrown off by being told in February by SCGC that it was still on track to come to my dealer by the end of March and only after I inquired with SCGC well into April that I was informed about the delay. This is a simple case of being a bit put off by the “how” and not the “what” (delay) or “why” (COVID) which were perfectly understandable.

Well it always sits poorly when you get misinformation. But your guitar sure looks like it will be a great one. I placed my order with SCGC through The Music Emporium during the first week of October with an expected delivery in May. Fortunately we are still on schedule. Fingers crossed and we can compare notes at the end.

Default A few updates from SCGC

An overall view of the front with the neck dovetail fitted for the shot (not glued yet). The MOP art deco marker can be seen at the 12th fret and the Paua rosette and top purfling as well.

The figured Claro Walnut back with African Blackwood binding/backstrip with maple purflings.

The Paua Abalone rosette and some silking in the Bachmann Italian Spruce top.

The Gaboon Ebony peghead overlay with a Paua Abalone logo, African Blackwood binding with Maple purflings.

They tell me it is 6-8 weeks out before it goes to my dealer.

Bummer about the wait and the lack of communication, but it looks like it will really be an awesome guitar for you. I look forward to seeing it complete and in your hands.

It's a blessing I will probably never get to play that or I might just have to have one. Congrats, build is looking great!

But is it “good enough”?

It has been hard year to run a small shop in California in the midst of a pandemic so I am sure this is not business as usual at SCGC. I just got caught during a particularly difficult time.

If you ever come to Woodstock in October that could happen…
