Wasn't familiar with DD until I saw Pulp Fiction and was immediately gob-smacked with that guitar.

I'll bet there will be a lot of feather earrings worn in tribute to him.

DD inspired a wealth of surf guitar lovers and he as a toally unique individual.

RIP and may you truly enjoy the last and biggest pipeline.

Arguably the first true guitar hero, and a major influence to this day...

Default RIP Dick Dale

Farewell to the King of Surf Guitar.

I've had the occasion to see Dick several times over the past several years and have always walked away in awe of his playing and showmanship.

Dick, you will be missed......

I saw Dick when he was 65 or there abouts and he had the women of all ages hanging around the stage. The guy was amazing. He influence Hendrix also.

Saw him at Bumbershoot in Seattle shortly after the release of Pulp Fiction. The guy put on a heck of a show, and inspired my early guitar playing. Thanks for the inspiration, innovation, and imagination Mr. Dale!

Dick provided feedback on Leo Fender's early amps because he kept blowing them up by playing so loud. Leo fixed that problem.

RIP Dick.

Heard a replay of Terry Gross (Fresh Air) interviewing Dick Dale in 1993 on NPR yesterday.
Here's a link to the transcript: https://www.npr.org/2019/03/22/70581...he-surf-guitar
Fascinating info about the evolution of his style, sound, equipment, and playing technique, plus his work with Leo Fender to develop his custom amp, like this tidbit...

My thinnest string is a 14 unwound, and then I use two 18 unwounds for my second and third string. And then my fourth string, I use a 38 wound. And my fifth, I use a 48. And then I use a 58 or a 60, whichever ones I can get

He did more with one string than I do with six.
