Default Australia population hits 25 million today.

As the title says, the population of Australia hit 25 million today and given that the combined population of Sydney and Melbourne is 10 million you can see we're still pretty spread out.

Did you know Australia is the only country in the world where Starbucks failed?
They lost millions of dollars and eventually packed up and left.

My father, RIP, was everywhere on this planet, every continent, Hawaii (he was at Pearl Harbor Dec.7, 1941) to Hong Kong, and he LOVED Australia most.

A 3 week trip to Australia and New Zealand is on my no excuses bucket list in the next year or two. Don't let it get too crowded, your wine is getting pretty good too, g'day..........

Starbucks leaving is an interesting factoid and perhaps a plus in some perspectives

Considering the size of the Australian continent, 25 million people is pretty much a barren place.

I recently read “In the Wet” by Nevil Shute who moved to Australia from England after the war. Published in 1953, it was a look into what he thought Australia might be like in the 1980’s. He thought Australia might hit 25 million around then and that England’s population would plummet due to emigration. While he was generally right about the more conservative politics of Australia, he thought Australia might be a worldwide leader of innovation due to its huge middle class. Reading it (a good fictional yarn not completely wrapped up in what ifs), I did wonder if Australia’s best years are still ahead. I hope so.

Congratulations. Even Texas still feels empty at times and we have more than 2 million more people and a lot less room.

Here in the US of A we have 325 million in a space pretty close to the same size. We have sparsely populated states here!

Wow, I had no idea Australia had that small a population.

I would love to add to that total.

However, it always puzzled me (when visiting family over there) why the houses are so close together with very small garden/yard areas. But then again, with so much opportunity to get out and about, who wants to stay home all day?

Actually guys there are a couple of Starbucks in the bigger cities - but you gotta go find them.
They virtually tried to flood the Australian market .. as if there were no coffee selling outlets here at all.
That flopped.

I laughed at one comment I read, 'Starbucks failed here because Australians have taste buds.'

No. The population of kangaroos in Australia is now near 50 million.

Oh...you mean HUMAN population. Carry on. Aussies of course are encouraged to eat more boomers.
