Default Long Term Amp Storage question.

Got a local guy selling a 40 watt 1x12 Bogner Alchemist. He says he never gigged with it and it has been in a climate controlled storage space for 5 years.

Any concerns? I will be checking it out tonight

Plug it in; turn it on; crank it up.

If it works and you like the sound, buy it.

My favorite amp is a Fender from the 50s with mostly original tubes.

I don’t see why amps would need to be stored in a climate controlled room. I bet you can leave one of those in an attic for 50 years and all it might need is a change of tubes.

Assuming it has a "standby" position, let it warm up a few minutes before you slam those tubes. If no standby, warm up with zero gain.

Capacitors go bad, and a leaking cap can blow a transformer. Five years isn't that long, so it's probably OK.

correct. but, we don't know how old the amp actually is.
check the speaker code, assuming it is original. otherwise, if the seller wishes to take the chance to turn it for you, and, something bad happens, then it is on the seller.

play music!

Be cautious about this one, depending on when/where it was made. The Bogner-made ones are high-quality, but I've head of some serious and consistent issues with later ones made, I believe, in China. There's some Youtube stuff about these.

I did some research on the amp before picking it up and some folks had problems with the rectifier. I was originally going to pick up a new Fender Super Champ X2, but for the same price I was able to get the Bogner. Considering what I got the amp for, The cost to deal with a rectifier tube would not be a major issue if this problem arose

The amp sounds amazing. It is incredibly versatile. With the clean channel you can get a sweet fender sound, and the overdrive channel has that really fat Marshal crunch, with loads of color in-between the 2. And the 40 watt/20 watt option helps for home use.

I will post a NAD soon.

It will probably be fine. Last week, my son and I pulled a c. 1983 Macintosh computer out of the attic, where it had been since 1995. Not only did it turn on instantly, but the clock was still keeping perfect time. Quality control in electronics and the quality of the components has been pretty darn good since the 70’s.
