Default Another travel guitar thread - sorry!

I have been trying to make a decision for a guitar to use while traveling in our RV. I currently have a Martin HD28V and an OM21. I prefer the size of the OM21 for sitting around practicing, so I was leaning towards either the Taylor GS mini or the Yamaha FG800.

Since I will have to buy without trying them out, I was hoping to get educated opinions on these two or other suggestions I am overlooking.

Thank you!

Significantly more expensive, but look at a CF guitar. Great size and very durable. I love the neck and fret board on the Emerald

RainSong CH-PA1100NSG. One of the least expensive CF options. Sounds great and is much more louder than you would expect for a parlor guitar. 17% off at MF right now. Lastly, it will take what ever hot or cold weather you expose it to in your RV.

Worry-free carbon fiber: Rainsong parlor, Journey OF-660 or RT-660, Emerald X7

Wood: Yamaha FS-800 (you mentioned you like the OM body size better) or for ~2X that price you could get a GS Mini. Both have solid wood tops and will require some humidity and temperature care. GS Mini has a much shorter scale than you are used to (23.5" versus 25.4") and that could require some adaptation. I would also add Teton guitars to Gitartanzon's list of price-friendly choices. I have this STP-180DVB parlor ($500) and no longer own a GS Mini. https://tetonguitars.com/product/stp...-teton-guitar/

I take a Larrivee parlor in my camper with me. I like having the full size 1.75" nut and it sounds great. I do have to keep it in the case when not using because the humidity in my small camper can get high, but it's not long term so it's ok I'm sure. But I take care of it well and I don't treat it as a beater guitar. I'm also kind of a solid wood enthusiast I guess, and couldn't mentally handle anything otherwise, so Larrivee it is for me.

Yamaha CSF3M is also a solid wood parlor. I'm crazy about it.

The Yamaha FG800 is a Dreadnought, Presumably you would be more interested in the FS800 which would be be the same size as your OM-21

Personally I would want either the aforementioned CH-AP or CH-OM from Rainsong.

There is a CH-OM for sale in the classifieds right now.
There is also a Special edition Rainsong Shorty for a ridiculously good price. (I'd have bought one already if I didn't have one)

Here is a pic of my Rainsong Shorty (the CH-OM is the exact same size) next to my Larrivee OM-03R, which would be the same size as your Martin OM-213

For Travel I bought a Larrivee Parlor years ago (same size as a Martin single 0). I recently bought a Rainsong CH-PA for the same purpose.

IMHO, the Alvarez AP60, AP70 or MP60, MP70 is a nicer guitar. The 60 series is mahogany back and sides and the 70 is rosewood back and sides with the MP, solid b/s and the AP is laminiate b/s.

I’d VERY MUCH recommend that you get a guitar with a “normal” nut width (1 3/4” is usually normal for an OM; 1 11/16” normal for a dread) and a “normal” scale 25.5”, or a typical short scale is 24.9”). Otherwise, your practice may not yield the results you want. A very narrow nut or a very short scale will throw off the feel of all your fingering.

I have been VERY happy with my Voyage Air VAOM 06. Sounds really good for a guitar with laminate back and sides (has a solid top), has good volume, has all the dimensions of an OM in regards to nut, scale, and body dimensions...just a great guitar!

Perhaps not as durable as a CF guitar, but very durable, and less expensive than a CF guitar.

The voyage air om is the same size (body, full scale, 1.75 nut) as the Martin om, and it folds up which may be nice since space can be tight in an rv. Vaom04 has solid top and the vaom02 has laminate top. I have a vaom04 and think it is very good and certainly the best travel guitar i’ve owned. If a short scale is not an issue, I would definitely recommend the amazing Composite Acoustics Cargo. Sounds like a standard size guitar, it's built like a tank.
