Being born in Queens, we lived there until I was going into first (or was it second ?) grade, when we moved to northern California. One of my earliest memories is being separated from my mother in Macy's. Funny thing is that all the people around me looked like knees, and I had no clue who belonged to them. Somehow, somebody found my mother (cell phones were still at least 30 years into the future), but I do recall it being a harrowing experience.
I have been afraid to set foot in a Macy's store ever since. Tony

Way back when I was a little kid I got lost in a department store. When asked, I told the store clerk my name was “Pete Seeger,” apparently as I liked his show that was on at the time. When my mother heard “We have a lost little boy ‘Pete Seeger,’ will his parents come pick him up at customer service,” she knew it was me.
