Default Trying to change my comfort zone.. advise needed

Rhythm player here..

Been trying to spruce up my songs with lead in's, outro's and something in the middle
ie..... trying to learn some lead work

The biggest problem I'm having it hitting the right string, especially doing pedal(sp?) notes.... Like on "Paint it Black"

or like in the same song your doing it this way open on the D and then 3rd fret on the b string, open D open E, Open D ..First fret on E back to open D and then 3rd fret E

Any exercises to help hit those strings with accuracy and speed?

There are many ways to go about this. I know I do this to the point of overkill. Try walking up or down a couple of notes to the chords 1 note. Or take some time and find a note or two out of a pentatonic scale that will work for you. I often find that starting a short fill on the third of the chord I am playing to sound like it makes sense.

I’m not familiar with the course but I am familiar with the teacher. He knows what he’s doing.

Check your thumb position and make sure you are fretting with only the tip of the finger.

I usually center it on the back of the neck, but sometimes not but I never fret with it...After looking at it...I grab it like a baseball bat lol
