So once the top was selected I got a family photo of the back and sides:
I guess the pins in the map are known locations of Stephen Kinnaird guitars. After the disappointing cancellation of BIG (er) (we were hoping to drop by), Steve got to work on the rosette, under lock-down. This is the "black" mother of pearl (it's not black, but it's got dark highlights (lowlights?) that will work well with the ziricote. The ziricote piece for the rosette: Nicely fitted into the LS top: Rosette installed. If I understand right, there's braces on the back and the top is finished, but no pictures of that yet. All in good time. |

Such a sweet looking top and a beautiful rosette!
You're gonna love what redwood imparts to this guitar--I'm loving the Tunnel 14 on my latest guitar, and I've no doubt this LS will be similar for yours!

The routing for the back strip:
And gluing in the back strip: And voila, the ebony back strip with white purfling, scraped and leveled after gluing. I love those curls of ebony. Watch this space, more to come! |

I like the symmetry in that ziricote set, very nice.

OK, here's the Lucky Strike redwood "marriage" strip going on the inside of the back. I learned from Steve that the strip is glued on with the grain perpendicular to the the grain of the back, for strength.
The birthday message is from Ryan's children. The glued on strip, in the process of being trimmed and shaped. The finished strip: Preparing the strip for the back braces: Radiused and scalloped Sitka spruce back braces: |

I'm glad you're enjoying it Cigarfan. Steve is being really generous with the pictures, and I'm just picking a few of every day's harvest.

I love my Kinnaird OM, and I'm sure you will yours as well. Mine has a deep body but also a wedge - a feature I highly recommend. Very comfortable, and doesn't upset the symmetry like most bevels.

So by "wedge" you mean something different from an arm bevel? Do you mean a body-facing bevel?

Ah, I see. Thanks. That's interesting.
Things are a little far along for that option on this guitar. Maybe the next one! |

The back braces are glued in and being shaped. I'm a fool for these curly wood pictures.
All the braces tapered and shaved. The ziricote and Sitka spruce with the redwood strip work pretty well. |
