Default Ugh, my YouTube concert sounds awful

So, YouTube saved a copy of my live stream, which was really the only way for me to hear what others heard. And holy smokes it's bad. Yeesh.

The audio quality is simply awful. My guitar "warbles" terribly... the whole thing is just a mess.

So, come to find out that other singer-songwriter types use an "Encoder", which is some kind of front end to YouTube. I have no idea what I'm getting into, but I guess I need to sift through more techie stuff before trying this again.

What was your signal path? Yes, something warbling. What I've done is use OBS (free), to connect to YouTube, Facebook, etc, and that seems to work well. I don't have any I've tried still up to see, but here's one Al Petteway did some months back. I watched it live, and it was just like this. His video's a bit fuzzy, he was just using a webcam - yours seems to look better than his, but his sound is good. He ran thru his audio interface into OBS, then sent on to you tube.

Thank you! I too stumbled upon OBS. My tiny brain will need some time to process this stuff.

Did you have monitor speakers on while streaming?

Nope.

I'm virtually certain that this is a streaming thing. I've been reading up on OBS and I think I'm ready to try again. I'll do a test soon.

YAY! OMG, I feel so much better.

I have gotten OBS going and made two short YouTube streaming tests.

They sound SOOO much better. They actually sound not unlike what I hear!

The video quality is poor because I've had to move downstairs out of the natural light and into my "cave".

Hi bw

Much better.

I'll move on from a YouTube video quicker for poor sound than for poor audio. Most folks will…

Decent sound & I can listen in the background without watching. My daily consumption of music is more auditory than video.

You have good enough equipment that you can bring the video quality back up to match the improved audio.

I watched two or three videos that were needlessly confusing. Write if you need some help setting up OBS.

I've been recording live streams on ZOOM and Facebook for awhile now and spent a good amount of time getting the best sound while not wading into OBS. I occasionally will upload those efforts to YouTube and they sound good. So then I decided to try to live stream straight to YouTube to see how that sounded and was very disappointed to get that awful warbly sound you got in your first attempt. I looked around for a few of the acoustic tweaks that ZOOM has but could find nothing so I just went back to streaming to the other two platforms and cross posting to YouTube on the rare occasion I need to. I'm glad the OBS thing is working for you better. I still have no interest in wading into that though. I suppose if I hadn't been able to get a decent tone on ZOOM or FB Live then I would have had to.

The functionality that OBS offers one-camera performers for YouTube streaming is actually not difficult to configure or master.

Essentially:
1) download OBS
2) open OBS
3) add "sources" such as your USB camera and your USB interface (or USB mic)
4) add "filters" such as compressors and reverb
5) add your YouTube "streaming key"

Voila.
