Question for Strumming
Are those videos representative of what you are hearing live and in person on your guitar? If so, wow!!!!! Thats what I mean by a sound being alive. |

Yes, I think the videos are very close to what my guitar sounds like. In fact, my request to Drew was to try to voice my guitar to be as close to this one as possible since I liked the tone so much. The Fine Luthier SJ and mine are both Cedar/Coco as well. IMO, the real proof in the pudding will be in how it records and will be a more fair comparison. Both players in the video are tremendous so there's just no competing with that. ;-) I hope to put together a rough recording at some point and if the playing isn't too bad, I'll post it here.

Incoming Heinonen SJ!
We have our very first Heinonen SJ in Cedar/Quilted Sapele reminiscent of the Olson #1500 coming into the shop next month! So I would be able to share a video or two then as well. I have access to a few Olsons so I might include that in the videos for comparison

Thanks for the comparison video, Alan. The resemblance is certainly there tonally. Though the Olson sounds more full and the heinonen sounds a little thinner, rhey do sound like cousins from the clips...it would be great to try them out in person to experience the contrast...

FYI, The back and side of both guitars are different and The strings on the Heinonen SJ was brand new on the shooting day. Of course, the master's guitar has to be better and I think Drew just well captured the signature tone of the masters. Come to Korea and try~ ! Cheers Alan |

Thanks for posting that Alan, that's a really well-done comparison of the two guitars. I think they both sound excellent. Slight different, pretty similar in many ways, and both worth owning....

Great comparison. Some variables: guitar age, strings, back and sides. Very well done. Both sound awesome and anyone would be lucky to have either.
