Funny, it takes much longer for the authorization, PIN entry, etc than me paying cash. The exception would be the little old lady who has to search in her suitcase-sized purse for a few pennies, of course.

I try to pay cash as much as possible - in person, obviously, as online negates that option.

Not going to get into all my personal financial habits other than to say this:
I’m old school and I travel for business. I typically have $400-$500 cash on me. Never want to be caught short.

In my experience, this describes 99% of the people who pay this way.

If you ever change your handle name, you should go with "Bargeld"

My wallet usually has around $200 cash.

Why?
Cash is the most private way to pay.

When younger I filled up huge cans of coins, and never left the house with change.
Now I carry around a change purse to make exact change.
My goal is to spend all of my 8 trillion coins before I croak.

I do have one CC that I use for online purchases.
For all my bills I do have automatic pay from my checking account.
I don't have apple pay, paypal, bitcoin, or any of those other new ways to pay.

How do you pay for various things?
Do you carry cash?

Keep some cash in pocket but use one card to pay for everything over a few dollars.

Default No more cash?

This is disturbing, but the reality is that cash and coin will be gone in the future. It has many overtones...but it will happen. Many moons from now the ol' codger that has a storage shed full of paper and coin will find he's actually broke

And should those coins be made from silver and gold ?
Are you suggesting that the people that sell things on the street which we are not permitted to discuss will be taking Bitcoin ?

I'm saying that the future of currency has begun the push for all consuming digital transactions that will be the way of trade in the near future...I hope I won't see it in my lifetime, but the warning signs are all around us.

If I have over $16.00 in my wallet I’d be shocked. I prefer the simplicity of my Southwest credit card which gives me points to fly back-and-forth to Florida free.

My wife likes to carry cash. I tell her all the time if somebody grabs your purse the cash will be gone forever unlike the cc. Didn’t care what I said..........until last year in Florida while shopping. She put her clutch with $200.00 cash in the front part of the shopping cart while putting things in the trunk. Put her things away and put the cart in the stall and didn’t realize until she was halfway back to the condo that she left it in the cart! Turned around, found the shopping cart! Found her clutch! Yea! I’d, drivers license, credit card all there! Yea! Cash......you guessed it....all gone! Forever!

Now she doesn’t carry much cash.

Now if I’m buying a guitar locally, I’ll just go to the bank and get cash. That’s it for us.

Rarely pay for things with cash. We buy most of our airline tickets with frequent flyer pets from credit card purchases. Save a lot on hotels the same way. Saves space in the Costanza wallet for receipts with faded ink and notes on tiny scraps of paper no one can read. primarily use cash to by things for my wife, some tipping, and donations to people in need on the street. Life has been good to us and we never carry a balance on a card.

I'm creeped out how the system increasingly abuses our personal info.
What when and where I buy things is nobody's business to exploit.

No, cash is a pita. Short a few bucks, getting the wrong change back, etc. - doesn't happen with a debit card.

If my kids/grandkids need cash in a hurry we just "Cashapp" them the funds and sort out the bodies later

So it will become worthless overnight ?

How will politicians funnel money?

Wouldn't the drug cartels lobby against this plan also?
