Guitar strap extra length on tailpiece: cut it off?
I’m a tiny little guy at 5’ 8” with a new Lakota strap. The shortest I can make the strap leaves a good length hanging off the tailpiece. Should I cut it off or is there some secret way to attach the two pieces of leather so I can use the opening that’s closest to the end of the strap?

If you leave it, it won't hurt anything. If you don't want that tail hanging, cut it off.

If you are a tiny guy at 5'8" what am I at 5'6" ???
I make all my own straps, and have one for each guitar that I might perform with, but I hate to see "tails" on guitar straps. If I were you (Lofty) I'd cut the strap to suit YOU!

Guitar strap extra length on tailpiece: cut it off?
Quote:
Appreciate it. I hate the look of the tail sticking out at an angle. But I was kinda wondering if I was just attaching it wrong, those two pieces of leather. At 5’ 6” you are also teeny weeny. Same as me, no real diff there. |

For me it’s standard procedure whenever I get a new strap: I adjust the strap so it’s as close as I can get it, then trim the excess.

I'm about 5' 6" / 5' 7" too
I put the strip part of the strap in the upper slots, and fold the strip over and bring it down to one of the first slots in the strap then run the other end through I'll take a small tie wrap and secure any excess of the inside of the strap together so it's not floating around. I don't cut them

I’d cut the excess off, but I may be in the minority.

If the strap doesn't have stitching along the border, cut it to fit.
If it does have stitching, I would leave it as it or cut some more adjustment holes in the main part of the strap for the end strap to go through.

I'm a little feller as well at 5'6" and I have a hard time finding a strap that's long enough for me. I like my guitar to hang with the soundhole right above my waist so I'm not doing the hang to the floor metalhead thing. Maybe it's the belly thing...dunno.

Guitar strap extra length on tailpiece: cut it off?
I have a dedicated strap for each of my guitars though I detach them when not playing. One of my Lakota leather straps is for my parlor. I cut off the excess and rounded the end so it looked a bit more finished.

Can you post a photo of the strap as it is now?
That might help in determining if there are other ways to attach the pieces.
